A stoppage as Ciaran Frawley gets checked out for a bump on the head but he is ok to continue and it is a scrum down green ball right in the middle of the park on halfway.

Breaks from Tadgh Beirne and Ciaran Frawley get Ireland on the front foot before Jacob Stockdale gets stopped short five metres from the line.

However, Hollie Davidson rules that the Ulster wing held on too long after a Fijian defender jackaled the ball.

  5. Doris nominated for World Rugby player of the year awardpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: Ireland 28-3 Fiji

Ireland's Caelan Doris has been nominated for World Rugby's men's 15s Player of the Year award.

Doris played a key role in Ireland's successful Six Nations and captained Andy Farrell's side to a thrilling win over South Africa in Durban.

The 26-year-old back row, who was named Ireland skipper for the autumn internationals, will go up against South Africa trio Eben Etzebeth, Cheslin Kolbe and Pieter-Steph du Toit for the award.

Three Irish players - Keith Wood (2001), Johnny Sexton (2018) and Josh van der Flier (2022) - have previously won the award.

Doris' Leinster team-mate Jamie Osborne has been nominated for the men's breakthrough player of the year, while Erin King - who scored two tries in Ireland's WXV1 win over world champions New Zealand - is up for women's breakthrough player of the year.

Ireland's Terry Kennedy will compete with France's Antoine Dupont and Aaron Grandidier Nkanang for sevens player of the year while James Lowe's first try against England in the Six Nations is up for try of the year.

The World Rugby Awards take place in Monaco tomorrow.

You can see elements of what they (Ireland) are trying to do - they are getting those little intricacies of what they are trying to do.

Hopefully in the second period they can come out and start to build more phases and more scores will come.

  7. Ireland 'have controlled territory'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time

Ireland have controlled territory and that has put them in a position to score points.

They have scored four very good tries. There have been a few inaccuracies - last passes, little drops - but if they can continue that sort of threat in the second half, they can kick on here.

  8. 'Remember that name' - meet Ireland's new fly-halfpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: Ireland 28-3 Fiji

It has been a mixed first 40 for Sam Prendergast with an early yellow card but he has shown some lovely touches with both hand and foot.

The Leinster man is competing with Jack Crowley and Ciaran Frawley to become Johnny Sexton's permanent successor at 10 and has certainly made an impression so far.

Likely to be a pleasing aspect for Farrell here so far will be how some of his younger, less experienced players have responded to setbacks.

They haven't had it all their own way by any means but seem to have taken any bumps in the road in their stride to look right at home at this level.

Despite the early yellow card for Prendergast, Ireland tidied up their discipline issues with just three penalties conceded across that first half.

In contrast, it was 11 for Fiji.

With all four of Ireland's tries coming off the set-piece, that's been huge in the game.

How about that for athleticism from the Ireland scrum half?!

His was the third of four first half tries for the hosts.

It's an amazing bit of skill. For me, it's a really strong, powerful scrum, getting the shoulder up and pushing the Fijian team back.

An absolutely awesome way to finish the half from an Irish perspective.

Another yellow card early in the game threatened a good start for Ireland but they have been playing lovely free-flowing rugby in this first half.

They have perhaps been a bit guilty of overplaying at times but they have four tries on the board and Andy Farrell will be happy with what he has seen for the most part.

Converted Try - Ireland 28-3 Fijipublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    Mack Hansen (con Prendergast)

What. A. Try! Off the scrum, Bundee Aki takes the ball at first receiver before laying it off to Sam Prendergast.

The young out half spots Mack Hansen in acres of space on the right as Fiji's defence bites in and puts a kick straight into the Connacht wing's bread basket.

Prendergast's conversion rattles the post but drops over the bar.

Into the last minute of the half as Hollie Davidson stops play for an injury to Craig Casey. Replays show that the injury came from a late hit from tight head prop Luke Tagi as all of his substantial weight landed on Casey's left knee.

Thankfully, the Munster scrum half looks ok to continue as that could have been nasty.

Sam Prendergast knocks the penalty into the corner and Ireland win a scrum for the ball being held up. Fiji believe it was a maul and should be their ball.

    Ireland 21-3 Fiji

A lovely kick into the corner from Craig Casey but Ciaran Frawley has had the wind taken out of him by an enormous hit from Eroni Mawi.

The tackle is textbook but poor Frawley had his ribs completely exposed. As always, Fiji are putting in some monster hits but, at times, they have overcommitted and Ireland have taken advantage.

However, when they hit you, you stay hit!

Ireland counter after Ciaran Frawley takes a catch from his opposite number Vuate Karawalevu. They go from one 22 to the other with sumptuous dummy runners and flat passing.

However, Josh Van Der Flier overcooks his and it's forward to Bundee Aki.

A really important try, a great time to score a try. It was Gus McCarthy who spun round blind-side and gave a fantastic offload.

He's another Irish hooker we are talking about - we're lucky to have such depth in that position.

Gus McCarthy produced a brilliant no-look pass to Caelan Doris just before Josh van der Flier's try and now that's a sharp offload for Craig Casey's score.

The debuting hooker is enjoying himself out there!
