    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

South Africa are doing what they do best, but de Klerk knocks the ball on as he looked to make a break.

The advantage is played and Crowley, in his own try area, boots it into touch.

We've 10 minutes until half time.

Here comes the Boks! They are hammering away at the Irish defence.

    They are five metres out!

That is poor. Ireland go back on the inside and there is no support and no option for Jack Crowley to make the pass.

    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

Ireland win the throw but are just outside their 22.

But it's a big mistake! The ball goes back to James Lowe, who thumps it 60 metres down field and into touch, but Karl Dickson was shouting that the ball was taken back in by the Irish, so now the Boks have the throw in a really good position.

  5. CLOSE!published at 16:39 British Summer Time 13 July

    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

    IRELAND SOMEHOW SURVIVE!

Big Kwagga Smith charges down Crowley's clearance kick and races towards the line.

Jamie Osborne, who is about half his size, does really well to bring the number eight down.

The bodies pile in but Pieter -Steph du Toit tackles a man on the ground and Ireland have the penalty.

That was try-saving stuff by Osborne.

  6. Ireland 'very encouraging'published at 16:37 British Summer Time 13 July

[Ireland are] showing cohesiveness in attack and in defence they are getting their clear outs right. I think the passes, the angles and the shape is so much better.

It's a very early time in this game and they have to be careful but it's obviously very encouraging how Ireland have started this game, it's exactly what you want and trying to respond after that loss in the first game.

Andrew Porter has been mopped up and we're ready to go with the Irish scrum.

In the stands there is a Mexican wave going. That's usually a sign of boredom from supporters, but there's not a chance they are losing interest here. This is gripping!

  8. 'Stark contrast in Ireland's sharpness in attack'published at 16:37 British Summer Time 13 July

A long way to go, of course, but worth remembering that on their past two southern hemisphere tours, Ireland lost first up before coming back to win the series (Australia 2018, New Zealand 2022).

With this only a two-Test trip, they can't do that this time around but the contrast between first and second Test performances has again been stark...so far!

  9. Postpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 13 July

Ohh! Cheslin Kolbe was so close to getting away there.

It's a great pass from Pollard that takes out three men, but Kolbe, who is normally so clinical, dropped the ball when he was clear.

His face tells a story there as he puffs out his cheeks.

South Africa win another penalty from the scrum.

Andrew Porter is the next man to have blood pouring from his face. It's brutal out there.

That was better scrummaging from the Ireland pack.

With ball in hand, the tourists look rejuvenated and full of ideas - getting a second try before half-time could be huge.

  12. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 13 July

    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

Jack Crowley sends another kick into the Durban night and Garry Ringrose almost wins it.

There's a bit of a scramble on the ground, and the end result is a scrum for the hosts.

  13. Postpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 13 July

    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

Their last scrum was unstoppable, and this time Ireland meet their power and both packs hold firm.

Osborne wins the kick and Ireland have the ball on halfway.

  14. 'South Africa look tired and fatigued'published at 16:31 British Summer Time 13 July

Brilliant play from Ireland again. South Africa are out on their feet, they look tired and fatigued in their movement

Calvin Nash makes some metres on the other wing and Ireland are up to the 22.

Crowley kicks again and Nash can gather, but the offload to Garry Ringrose is loose and momentum is lost.

Etzebeth plucks the throw out of the sky and de Klerk sends it long.

James Lowe is there and he beats two men but de Klerk makes amends to tackle his man.

After being involved in everything last week, that's the first time we have mentioned the Leinster wing today.

  17. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 13 July

    South Africa 3-10 Ireland

It's so scrappy but Ireland have the ball on halfway.

Joe McCarthy is met by a huge collision but manages to get the ball back, and Ox Nche of all people is there to gather Crowley's chip through.

Crowley does better with his second attempt and finds touch just outside the Springbok 22.

Franco Mostert's work rate is just incredible, he just powers into rocks and makes so many tackles.

Different type of player RG Snyman, he has that offload ability but not the same zip and energy regarding multiple involvements, particularly defensively, so it is a loss to them.

  19. Penalty - South Africa 3-10 Irelandpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 13 July

    Handre Pollard

It's a long way out and right in the middle of the pitch.

Pollard sends it right between the posts and South Africa are on the board.

    That's got the crowd going.

  20. Postpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 13 July

    South Africa 0-10 Ireland

It's some scrum for South Africa and they tear through the Irish pack to win the penalty.

Handre Pollard points to the posts.
