    Canada 12-0 Fiji

All of Canada's tries have come from line-outs so far today but I wouldn't bet against a couple of breakaway efforts.

    Canada 12-0 Fiji

Every time something looks like it's going Fiji's way, it all goes wrong.

Josifini Neihamu puts in a kick-chase from the restart and gathers safely but her side concede a penalty.

Before you know it, Canada are marching forward again.

Canada have the forward pack game as well. This time round they have been out forced and out muscled. There is nothing Fiji could have dome there.

    Gillian Boag (con missed)

Canada are relentless. They drive for the line from the line-out, overwhelm Fiji's defence and Gillian Boag crashes over. So much for waiting for that try, eh?

Sophie de Goede drags the conversion wide.

    Canada 7-0 Fiji

They're going to have to wait for the try. Canada drive for the line but Fiji hold firm.

Alex Tessier switches play to the left flank with a cross-field kick to Fancy Bermudez but Fiji scramble well in defence to first deny her and then halt a rumbling Sophie de Goede.

Canada switch back to the right but are denied once more.

Great defence from Fiji but Canada have a penalty advantage. They kick for the corner again.

    Canada 7-0 Fiji

Canada are all over Fiji's scrum. The ball gets stuck in the front row, Canada push in a big heave and then they're spinning.

    Canada will have a line-out deep in Fiji's 22.

    Canada 7-0 Fiji

    Ooooh nervy moments for Fiji.

Canada's Alex Tessier punts a clearing kick downfield and the Fiji player lets the ball bounce.

Fortunately, it doesn't cost Fiji but they need to find a little bit of composure.

As soon as she got that ball in her hands, I knew she was going to take it. Well taken, a dream start to her World Cup.

Sophie de Goede (con de Goede)

As soon as Canada kicked for the corner, that felt inevitable.

They cleanly win the line-out and former skipper Sophie de Goede, recently back from an ACL injury, comes around the corner and plops over the line.

She kicks the two points herself. I love it when forwards kick.

    Canada 0-0 Fiji

Oh no. Fiji do well to force a handling error with Canada bearing down on their line after a romp forward from captain Alex Tessier.

However, Canada win the scrum and kick to the corner. They don't care about the three points. They want a try.

Canada are being patient with it trying to play it wide but also use some tactical play.

Canada win a scrum just beyond Fiji's 10 metre line. Why does this feel ominous?

    Canada 0-0 Fiji

Canada have come out firing into the opening 60 seconds. The ball is worked left Fancy Bermudez to have an early dance down the wing before handing it back to the forwards to rumble upfield.

Lots of fast hands from the second seeds.

The anthems have been sung, the crowd is sounding raucous, and the players are getting into position.

Canada are all in red while Fiji have white shirts, which some classy grey and black detailing, and black shorts.

After hosts England began their tournament with a statement 69-7 victory over USA, second-ranked Canada, themselves among the pre-tournament favourites, will be hoping to produce a similar performance in York.

But can Fiji score the tournament's first upset?

Speaking to World Rugby, Fiji head coach Ioan Cunningham said: "It's a pleasure to be here.

"An exciting opportunity for us as a team to showcase our talents and our gifts on the world stage and what a way to start against the number two team in the world, Canada. We can't wait to get going."

  20. 'You can't be too prepared because Fiji are unpredictable'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 23 August

    Canada v Fiji (17:30 BST)

Speaking to World Rugby, Canada head coach Kevin Rouet said: "It’s an unpredictable team, and that's what we love with Fiji. You can't be too prepared because it's very unpredictable. It's fun to see that kind of style of play.

"We have a couple of key players who don't play this game, and we have players who haven't played in the past two games. So everybody's engaged, everybody knows the team is bigger than the individual, and I think it’s important to recognise that."
