Fiji's squad in much less experienced than Canada's - eight members of their 23 are 25 or under and six have made their international debuts within the past two months - but that doesn't mean they can be underestimated.

Take Alfreda Fisher, for example. The back row, 21, is only eight caps into her international career but is captaining her side at the World Cup. Undaunted by leadership, she scored a try against Australia in May during her first Test as skipper.

And then there's winger Josifini Neihamu. The 21-year-old scored a hat-trick on her debut against Tonga in June and has scored in each of her three caps to date.

There's a host of familiar faces in the Canada squad, with no fewer than 12 of their matchday 23 playing their domestic rugby in the England's Premiership Women's Rugby competition.

Destructive prop DaLeaka Menin has been described as "a terrifying prospect" by Exeter's interim head coach Steve Salvin while Tyson Beukeboom, on the interchange bench, is Canada's most-capped women's player, with 78 appearances.

Back row Sophie de Goede, who returned from an ACL injury last month, is a barnstorming figure in the middle of the park.

A former Canada captain, she has 11 tries in 35 caps and is something of a unique commodity as a goal-kicking forward.

Her replacement as skipper, Alex Tessier, was nominated for the 2024 World Rugby player of the year award. A versatile back who can play at fly-half and centre, Tessier has 60 international caps.

  6. World Cup veterans take on relative newcomerspublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 23 August

    Canada v Fiji (17:30 BST)

It's two sides with contrasting levels of World Cup experience who are meeting in York.

Canada are tournament veterans, playing more World Cup matches than any other nation (45) and featuring in all 10 editions of the tournament - a record only England, France and the USA can match.

Ranked second in the world, they're yet to get their hands on the trophy, coming second in 2014 (losing to England 21-9 in the final) and finishing fourth four times in the past seven tournaments.

Fiji, by contrast, are only playing in their second World Cup after previously qualifying for the 2021 event (played in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

They were eliminated in the pool stage in New Zealand but did win a match, beating South Africa 21-17.

Fiji are currently ranked 14th in the world.
