Ooh Scarlets were nearly away then.

Costelow showed no ill-effects of that Carter tackle when he broke through then.

He fended off his tackler and got the ball out to the wing but Tomi Lewis just couldn't hold on with clear field ahead of him.

It was a good hit by Ben Carter on Sam Costelow earlier.

As a 10 you don't really want a 150kg guy crashing into you mid-kick when your legs are planted.

But it was a good hit by Carter, it really put the pressure on.

Slight pause in play as Dragons forwards Chris Coleman and Taine Basham both having some treatment.

Basham is another with a point to prove to Gatland, however I've liked the look of his opposite number Dan Davis this season.

    He's already carried well today.

Scarlets have grown into this game.

Costelow puts in a couple of high kicks, Ewan Rosser was never going to catch his effort but Rio Dyer shows how it's done.

Catch, step and pass. He really does look a different class.

And again Dragons are penalised at the breakdown, this time it's Chris Hollis who comes in from the side.

He really should know better with his experience. Dull.

However he escapes as Costelow misses a pretty straight-forward kick. Should be 6-3.

Jamie mentioned about the midfield battle earlier. I think it could be a massive summer for Ben Carter.

It has been a season to forget so far after missing out on World Cup selection, concussion against Barbarians, hamstring surgery and a red card.

However, Carter has spent his four months out bulking up, adding an extra 7kg (1st) to his frame, and he could now capitalise on Wales' second-row crisis by staking a claim to a Wales start this summer.

  7. Penalty: Scarlets 3-3 Dragonspublished at 14 mins

    Sam Costelow

Ha... typical. Having just talked up Rio Dyer he has immediately cost his team three points!

He was tap tackled, knocked on and then tried to play the ball on the ground. Pretty silly and Costelow levels with a pretty scruffy kick.

Even more encouraging for Dragons is that they've already got their big players on the ball.

Aaron Wainwright just burst clear and Rio Dyer had his first touch.

You can feel the excitement when the Wales wing touches the ball.

    More please.

It was a decent build up to that penalty for Dragons, they kept the ball, they were on the front foot, they were moving it around.

Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Sam Lousi looked pretty guilty in the aftermath. It seemed like a shoulder jab.

Scarlets had won a penalty but Sam Lousi's high tackle on Rhodri Jones sees the penalty reversed and Reed opens the scoring.

You didn't have to wait long Jamie. Owen and Westwood combining nicely in midfield as Dragons look to run for the first time.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a lot of younger players playing, especially in the midfield.

Aneurin Owen, Joe Westwood up against Eddie James plus the experienced man now in Johnny Williams.

The battle is probably going to decide, or play a pivotal part, in who is going to win the opening match.

First scrum and Scarlets win a penalty. Kemsley Mathias getting the pats on the back.

He's one of many looking to impress Warren Gatland who is here today before naming his squad on Monday.

Back to this game and Dragons have set out their stall early

Scrum-half Rhodri Williams has had the ball four times and kicked high with three of them.

  16. All on for Ospreys!published at 15:02 1 June

    Scarlets 0-0 Dragons

Wow! They needed a series of results to get into the play-offs and it has all gone Ospreys way elsewhere in the URC.

It began last night with Connacht coming away empty-handed against Leinster.

At lunchtime today, Lions only picked up a losing bonus point against Stormers - after leading at half-time.

Then Edinburgh were left with nothing from their trip to Benetton, who became the seventh side to qualify for the play-offs.

It means if Ospreys beat Cardiff - with a bonus point - they will now reach the play-offs.

Remarkable though, not to be that person, but I said it was worth a punt last night.

If only I'd put my money where my mouth is!

We could get an absolute humdinger, an 80-90 point game or we could get a bit of drudgery.

The stage is set, it’s summer rugby, the pitch looks fantastic, there’s places up for grabs.

You hope a show will be put on, they’ll throw the ball around and put a display on.

Mefin Davies and Luke Narraway will leave their roles as Dragons forwards coaches after today's game.

Former Wales hooker Davies has been at Rodney Parade since 2020 while ex-England back row Narraway arrived in 2019, with both appointments made under boss Dai Flanagan's predecessor Dean Ryan.

“Everyone at Dragons is extremely grateful to Luke and Mefin for their hard work, professionalism and dedication during their time with the club," said head coach Flanagan.

“They have worked tirelessly with our forwards to help us improve year on year and both leave with our very best wishes for the next chapter of their respective coaching careers.”
