It was Cortez Ratima who picked up the ball from the base and he took two steps, which allowed Marcus [Smith] to react.

Great move from Smith. He stayed calm, threw the dummy and [Immanuel] Feyi-Waboso took it on.

Great gamble by Marcus Smith. It looked like a huge overlap for New Zealand but Smith, who reads the game so well, knew where the height of the pass would be.

    Brilliant by England.

England have beaten five defenders to New Zealand's 15. Flanker Wallace Sititi has been the star so far, setting up the first try with a superb offload and catching the eye with some barnstorming runs.

Ben Spencer's previous six caps came from the bench. One eye-catching break and a measured kicking game shows he has what it takes to start at 9.

However, in-form Harry Randall may suit an open game in the last 20.

Scrappy so far. First team to click wins this. If they're within a score at 60, England have to play the moment, forget the history and back themselves.

  18. Flaky England defencepublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    HT: England 12-14 New Zealand

    Mike Henson
    BBC Sport at Allianz Stadium

England promised they would front up and match the All Blacks physically in the pack, They have done so, turning the scrum into a source of strength and matching the tourists on the gain line.

However, their defence has been flaky with New Zealand's neat skills and clever lines exposing Ellis Genge twice for tries.

If Tupou Vaa'i had managed to cling to that final pass from Wallace Sititi the scoreline would look a lot uglier.

  20. No haka dramapublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November

    HT: England 12-14 New Zealand

Much of the build-up was dominated around the haka. Will England respond?

They did march forward, right up to the halfway line. That was it however.

An anti-climax for anyone wanting drama.
