There we have it then. Wales have ended their record 18-match losing run and have their first Test win for nearly two years.

The celebrations in Japan told their own story. Interim head coach Matt Sherratt close to tears, likewise captain Dewi Lake on the bench.

A cathartic victory, a moment of profound release for a beleaguered rugby nation.

They should enjoy tonight, they have got that victory.

It wasn't pretty, particularly in the second half, but they have got the win and hopefully they can come back stronger next season.

Wales interim head coach Matt Sherratt:

"We were braver than last week. Last week we got in front and we probably tried to hold on to a lead.

"When you have not won a game for a period of time, you start to get edgy, so the messaging this week was to be braver.

"I think the last try showed that - we have thrown to the back of a lineout and Taine Plumtree has done a reverse pass.

"All credit to the players and the staff."

Asked for a message to Wales' fans:

"Thanks so much for your support. Even during the Six Nations, I know it's been a hard time to support Wales.

"I hope you can enjoy tonight because we are certainly going to enjoy the next 24 hours.

"Thank you so much to all the Japanese fans as well."

    Wales captain Dewi Lake:

"We were probably at a similar point at half-time to last week, but we managed to come out and be a bit more accurate in the last 20 to get us over the line.

"There's never pressure to pull this jersey on. It's always a privilege.

"We are just thankful to the people who have stuck with us, friends and family in the crowd and back home, for supporting us through what's been a tough 18 months.

"It wasn't pretty but it's an important landmark for us today, to get that first win back on the board."

You look at how young this Wales squad is, it's really hard to mix the youth with the experienced players.

You take Josh Adams and Taulupe Faletau off the pitch and the average caps will fly down.

The more they play with each other at this level, obviously the better they'll become, and they'll learn how to win.

Dan Edwards played well. His kicking game was good and he kicked his goals.

He allowed the forwards to get on the front foot.

You need to celebrate this, it's been a very hard couple of years for the players, especially with what's happening at the regions.

There were a lot of good aspects to the game and also a lot of things to learn from. The young players will gain valuable experience from today.

Wales had a bit more territory and possession than they did last week, which put them in good positions.

They made the most of them - it was a fantastic try from Dan Edwards.

It's been a long season for some of those players and it's important victory. They will have a well-deserved break with a win behind them.

Credit to the players, they've found a way to win, and that's what was important at this point.

To be fair, right in the middle of the second half Wales were under a lot of pressure, Japan raised their game.

But in the last five minutes Wales found something and they found a way to win.

Wales fly-half Dan Edwards tells S4C: "As a group, we've performed today. The aim throughout this camp has been to get that win.

"We knew it was 18 successive defeats but this is a young group and there's a lot more to come from us.

"It was amazing to score. I was just glad to catch the ball! I'm just so glad we won."

It's a sigh of relief isn't it. That win was always going to come at some point, but they have been under so much pressure and had so much criticism.

Make no bones about it, it's not going to solve all the problems in Welsh rugby off the pitch.

But for the players to get that victory - you can see how much it meant.

They almost let it slip but they found a way to win and that's what it's all about.

In the first half Wales played very well. The second half wasn't great.

You could see all the pressure from the last two years was on them.

You see the emotion on the boys now, they're so glad to get the win, fair play to them.

For a while this felt exactly like last week, the momentum was with Japan, and you could feel Wales getting tired.

It's so nice to be able to sit here and not have to analyse what went wrong in this game, and we can talk about Wales' play.

What a great victory for Wales. There was a moment there, a five or six-minute period, where you thought Japan were going to come back and it was going to be deja vu.

But Wales managed to fight it out. They were all at sea in terms of replacements, with Reuben Morgan-Williams going on the wing, but 31-22 - Wales will take it.

Some of the boys have never won a game before for Wales, it'll be a massive day for them.

I'm looking at them now, and you can tell they're so happy to finally get that win.

What they need to do from here is to keep building, they can't be happy with just one win, they need to go into the autumn looking for more.

AT LAST! WALES HAVE WON A TEST MATCH!

The players share sweaty, joyous hugs in the sweltering heat and humidity of Kobe.

Are those tears in the coaches' box? Cry away, boys, cry away.

Wales have just won their first Test match for 644 days.

Their record 18-match losing run is over.

    Mawredd!

They need to have faith in system, and just don't give away needless penalties.
