Good footwork from Aaron Wainwright, but I think that's the third turnover at the breakdown.

Wales need to be quicker getting that first man there.

Lovely feet from Aaron Wainwright as the Wales number eight steps past a tackler and takes his team into the Japan half.

But from the next phase, there's yet another handling error and then Japan earn a penalty which they kick to touch in Welsh territory.

  4. 'Wales not used to winning'published at 07:03 British Summer Time

    Japan 0-7 Wales

    James Hook
Former Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Wales

They are going to be in this game, Wales.

But it's going to be about how they control the last 25 minutes because, after 18 losses, they are not used to winning.

    Japan 0-7 Wales

Wales threaten to add to their lead with Tom Rogers and Blair Murray making inroads on the right wing, but handling lets them down again.

After possession changes hands in quick succession, Ben Thomas settles things down and kicks well to touch just inside the Japanese half.

Wales have started quite well, we need to get the ball in Blair Murray's hands, and that's when things start to happen.

In a game like this you have to pick the perfect time to play rugby.

That all came from Alex Mann's turnover.

Blair Murray had options and that's bread and butter for Josh Adams, he'll finish that all day long.

That's a good start from Wales.

  8. try

Converted try - Japan 0-7 Walespublished at 9 mins

    Josh Adams

    Wales strike first!

This is a very nicely crafted try, and clinically executed just as the game was getting a little untidy.

Centre Ben Thomas does well to break a tackle and offload to Blair Murray, who bursts through the line in midfield.

He then passes to Josh Adams, and the wing speeds over for an excellent opening try.

    Dan Edwards converts. Solid start.

It is just that last pass for Wales in the opening minutes.

There have been opportunities for Wales but they need to keep hold of the ball. There have been a couple of handling areas - it's probably that grease on the ball.

Wales' lineouts are static, it makes it so easy to compete against.

    Japan 0-0 Wales

Japan look like they want to run the ball from everywhere, and Wales are matching that intent too.

That is until a loose pass lands at Josh Adams' feet and the Wales wing knocks on.

Blair Murray is a runner, he's at his best when he has space with the ball and can just run.

    Japan 0-0 Wales

Wales get the game's first penalty as Teddy Williams is impeded as he chases a towering clearance.

Dan Edwards kicks to the Japanese 22, but Dewi Lake's throw is not straight and Japan have a scrum. A chance missed.

    Japan 0-0 Wales

A couple of handling errors early on but a punchy run from Wales full-back Blair Murray too, one of the few bright sparks for his team in recent months.

Japan have a free-kick just inside their own half and take it quickly.

The hosts are looking to set a quick early pace.

Last week was painful, you just wanted to go and tell them 'you're good enough to win'.

    They just need confidence.

  18. 'We are looking for players to step up'published at 06:49 British Summer Time

    Japan v Wales (06:50 BST)

Wales interim head coach Matt Sherratt told S4C:

"We're used to playing under a roof at the Principality, not quite in this heat!

"It makes for a better atmosphere sometimes. It can make the ball a little bit greasy, the humidity goes up a little bit, but we've prepared really well.

    On Dan Edwards:

"Dan just needs to do what Dan does for the Ospreys. There's no added pressure that he's putting the red shirt on.

"That's been my attitude with Dan all week. What I love about Dan is he's got his own mind, he plays freely and the only pressure on Dan is to do exactly what he's done for the last four weeks in camp.

"He's someone I'm really looking forward to seeing play.

    On ending the losing run:

"I spoke to the players pre-match about how part of being a Test match rugby players is backing up.

"You can be happy to be picked for Wales, but we need players who want to perform for Wales.

"That's what we're looking for, Test match players who week-in, week-out perform and when the going gets tough and the conditions are hard and the game's on the line, they step up. That's what we've spoken about this week."
