The most pleasing thing for Scotland is they only gave away four penalties, including the red card. Despite the pressure they were under at times.

But what's coming off the bench means Scotland will need to score quickly in the second half.

I was surprised Cummings was shown a yellow card. I was flabbergasted it became a red.

The disallowed try is heart-breaking because it's such a good try, but it was a knock-on.

  3. Half-time - Scotland 9-19 South Africapublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

What a breathless half of rugby.

Scotland will feel harshly treated by Scott Cummings' red card which left them down to 14 players for half of the opening period.

They also thought they'd got right back in it before Ben White's try was ruled out. The Springboks have been far from their best yet have scored three tries and lead by 10.

That will probably be the concern for Gregor Townsend.

It's a gut punch for Scotland, but it's absolutely the right call.

Ah, hang on. The officials have spotted a knock on from Huw Jones before the ball ended up in Sione Tuipulotu's hands.

    A sucker punch for Scotland.

    Ben White

This is crazy stuff, and Scotland at their best.

Sione Tuipulotu delays a pass and releases Tom Jordan at the last second. The full-back puts White over the line to score.

  7. try

Try - Scotland 9-19 South Africapublished at 35 mins

    Makazole Mapimpi

    Too good!

A huge scrum is followed by a superb carry by centre Andre Esterhuizen. They play wide to Willie Le Roux who dinks a sublime chip into the arms of Mapimpi who grabs his second try.

    Handre Pollard converts.

  8. Penalty - Scotland 9-12 South Africapublished at 32 mins

    Finn Russell

Scotland hit straight back! Kwagga Smith is penalised and Russell is in fine form with the boot.

Max Williamson replaces Scott Cummings as the 20-minute red card comes to an end.

    It's 15 v 15 again.

Try - Scotland 6-12 South Africapublished at 30 mins

    Thomas Du Toit

    Boks back in front.

It's actually a poor lineout which is almost out of reach for Franco Mostert. Fortunately for the green and gold jerseys it drops into Du Toit's hands and he squeezes through a gap to score his first international try.

Handre Pollard kicks the extras this time.

    Scotland 6-5 South Africa

Frantic stuff. Hearts were in mouths at Murrayfield there.

Scotland were turning the screw, but a phenomenal clear out from Lukanyho Am forces a turnover. Eventually down the other end Willie Le Roux grubbers through and it bounces over the sliding Tom Jordan.

It pops up for his team-mate though.

    Scotland 6-5 South Africa

That's a really clever kick up the right wing from Blair Kinghorn, which results in a Scotland lineout.

The hosts are certainly not playing as though they're a man down.

    Scotland 6-5 South Africa

Scotland's defence - opening few minutes aside - has been really impressive.

Hooker Ewan Ashman absolutely smashes Eben Etzebeth which kills South Africa's momentum. They go wide on the back foot and Canan Moodie spills the ball.

    A huge moment from Ashman.

    Finn Russell

Despite being a player down, Scotland have played their way back into this game.

Another penalty gives Russell another chance to slot the ball between the posts. Game on.

  15. Red card - Scott Cummings (20 minutes)published at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November

    Scotland 3-5 South Africa

We won't be seeing Scott Cummings again. His yellow has been upgraded to a sending off, but it's the new 20-minute red card which is being trialled.

It means Cummings won't return, but Scotland can replace him in 20 minutes' time.

  16. Penalty - Scotland 3-5 South Africapublished at 17 mins

    Finn Russell

Scotland reduce the arrears with a sweet strike from Russell.

It came after Franco Mostert obstructed Scotland from a kick.

    Scotland 0-5 South Africa

The general consensus is that might have been a rather harsh yellow card for Scott Cummings.

Scotland are doing ok at the moment, though. A Ben White box kick causes the Boks some bother, and then they get a scrum after a South Africa kick leads to a knock on.

Scotland get a free kick from the scrum as well.

It should just stay as it is.

    It's not a croc-roll for me.

  19. Sin-bin - Scott Cummings (Scotland)published at 11 mins

    Scotland 0-5 South Africa

Scott Cumming is penalised for a croc-roll at the ruck on South Africa lock Franco Mostert. Scotland are down to 14 men, the penalty is reversed and that will go under review by the officials in the bunker.

    A huge moment.

Silky from Huw Jones, after a poor pass from Finn Russell the centre whips it through his leg to keep the Scotland move alive.

They get a penalty at the ruck, but after Eben Etzebeth suggests there was a Scotland neck roll the officials are now reviewing it...
