Replacement Jack Conan claims the ball but spills it forward giving the hosts another scrum inside the 22. Could this miss actually pay off for La Rochelle?

Leinster get sloppy and are driven backwards from the 22 to the ten metre line. The home defence are like pack animals on the hunt but perhaps get too excited as Jules Favre is penalised for playing the ball on the ground.

The home crowd disagree but Sam Prendergast makes it four from four off the tee to keep the scoreboard ticking over. How crucial could his boot be today?

La Rochelle concede a penalty at the scrum and then an offside closer to the posts so Leinster have the chance to get the tee out for an easier kick. Sam Prendergast gets the pitching wedge out and opens the lead up to seven.

The Leinster scrum has noticeably had the edge since the two starting La Rochelle props exited in the first half. Rabah Slimani has replaced Tadgh Furlong at tight head too for Leinster among other changes.

Bristol have turned the screw since returning to the field. They are being helped by a couple of poor penalties conceded by Benetton.

Ellis Genge has also been brought onto the field.

Everyone is getting a little hot under the collar to start the second half. Leinster are under defensive pressure again but win a scrum on their own line.

A scuffle breaks out and replacement tight head Georges-Henri Colombe is penalised for ripping the scrum cap off Caelan Doris as Nika Amashukeli has to have a word with the captains.

Giosue Zilocchi is penalised at the breakdown and Bristol will pop this into touch.

A hugely physical battle sees Leinster lead at the break. The visitors soaked up a lot of pressure but kept their line intact and scored a marvellous try against the run of play to hold a narrow lead at the break.

It's been an entertaining half of rugby at Ashton Gate. Benetton have looked bright but Bristol have been clinical with the ball they've had.

This game has been a war of attrition and we have lost three of the four starting props before the break. Cian Healy left a while ago and Uini Atonio and Reda Wardi have also succumbed to injury.

Nowell has indeed knocked on and, not only that, Hastoy was offside when he picked the ball up so it is a penalty to Leinster inside the 22.

The former England wing had tried to intercept a Sam Prendergast pass but Leinster survive that scare. However, they butcher the lineout and the hosts clear.
