George Ford kicks the ball to the right wing trying to pick out Immanuel Feyi-Waboso. However, Toby Fricker jumps up to contest the ball and it goes out of play.

    Fricker has been excellent defensively.

After a sluggish start to the second half, USA have weathered England's relentless storms well.

However, England are about to come again with a scrum inside the 22.

    England are attacking in waves.

There's some interchanges to catch up on.

For USA, Pono Davis, Marno Redelinghuys, Ruben de Haas and Cory Daniel have been replaced by Viliami Helu, Tonga Kofe, JP Smith and Makeen Alikhan.

Ben Curry, who made his debut against USA back in 2021, and Fin Baxter have come on for England. Alex Dombrandt and Bevan Rodd depart.

    USA 0-26 England

George Ford's trickery with the boot is excellent. He lofts a cute kick over USA's defensive line and two England players rush for the ball.

However, it's safely collected by Ruben de Haas and the USA scrum-half unleashes a mighty smack to send England back to their 22.

    USA 0-26 England

Every time USA get themselves in a good position, their set plays let them down.

They're overpowered by England at the scrum and George Ford hoofs it down the field for a line-out.

England's line-out is poor and Jamason Fa'Anana Schultz unleashes substitute Viliami Helu down the left for USA. However, another error hands the ball back to England. Sigh.

    USA 0-26 England

England have conceded eight penalties to USA's five. They've been quite clinical in attack but their discipline has been sloppy.

    USA 0-26 England

When USA have the ball in hand, they shift it around fluidly.

However, as I type that, they spill the ball and England turn it over.

This could be a tough half of rugby for the hosts.

Boom. Chandler Cunningham-South crashes into USA's defensive line.

The ball pops up to Asher Opoku-Fordjour and it's moved out to Luke Northmore on the right. He offloads to Jack van Poortvliet for his second try in two matches.

George Ford nails a routine conversion.

Oh Adam in Wallasey... you make me laugh.

England's George Ford gets the second half under way and immediately the visitors are on the front foot.

Ruben de Haas touches the ball down behind his own tryline for a dropout.

Re: comments regarding the weather for the rugby in DC. Let’s not forget rugby is a winter sport. That’s why the northern hemisphere teams head south in their summer and vice versa. Why two northern hemisphere teams are playing each other in July is beyond comprehension.

I disagree with Ollie (00:15). The knockout matches, and certainly every Ireland match will be sellouts. The game also lends itself well to the way US tv likes to put ads in. It's important for rugby to make a dent in the US market, and who knows, social media may do its thing. I am looking forward to it!

For those worried about the weather in 2031, these storms are common in the summer (we've had one every day this week) but won't be an issue in the winter when the Rugby World Cup is played. Fifa on the other hand will have problems.

Play started an hour later than planned following lightning in Washington DC.

USA then had fly-half Chris Hilsenbeck sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on in the 10th minute and England made their man advantage count, with Curtis Langdon and Luke Northmore crossing over for tries. George Ford converted on both occasions.

England then had tries for Alex Dombrandt and debutant Joe Carpenter chalked off either side of a 30-minute weather delay before Cadan Murley eventually bagged the tourist's third with the clock in the red. Ford missed the conversion.

    Phew.

    Cadan Murley (con missed)

The clock had gone red when England hunkered down for their scrum just inside USA's half but they want another score.

They cycle the ball through their forwards with the US defence in all kinds of disarray before handing the ball to Murley, who steps inside and dashes over.

There can be no arguments about this one.

George Ford misses a tricky conversion.

England have another try chalked off. This time it's for a knock-on against Cadan Murley as he battled two USA defenders.

How disappointing for Joe Carpenter. He'll have to wait for his first England try.

Play is brought back for an England penalty and George Ford kicks for the corner on the right-hand side. Another maul try incoming?
