  • Edinburgh miss out on play-offs

  1. Penalty Benetton 5-3 EDINBURGHpublished at 24 mins

    Ben Healy

Harsh one on Michele Lamaro. He thought the ball was out of the ruck, and simply scooped it up. The referee didn't agree. Still in, apparently.

Looked a good steal to me, but Healy has a chance from the tee. He shanks it, but its between the sticks.

  2. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

The Lions lead again in Cape Town against the Stormers - that's now 12-18 to the Lions.

Four tries in that game as they edge towards half-time.

  3. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

For the second time, Edinburgh have the ball and Ben Healy tries to float a kick out wide that goes straight out.

They're getting into good positions but have shown no composure at the clinical moments.

  4. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh win a scrum and Ben Healy floats a Russell-esque pass out to Jake Henry to get them into the Italian 22m.

It's messy but Jamie Ritchie salvages the situation and creates an overlap. The ball comes to James Lang but again, he tries a miracle ball and it's a knock-on.

  5. Brilliant Brexpublished at 14 mins

That try was all about the brilliance of Nacho Brex. He carved up the Edinburgh defence and the timing of the offload to Ignacio Mendy was perfect.

It all came from James Lang dropping a high ball and he's just passed another ball straight into touch. Edinburgh's crippling back-three injury problems means he's playing out of position at full-back, but he needs to settle down.

  6. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

Benetton are inches from a second score.

From a midfield scrum, Benetton run the playbook. Nacho Brex pops inside to Onisi Ratave, who in turn finds Tommaso Menoncello. He's dragged down a yard short but knocks on.

    Brilliant from the Italians.

  7. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

Bad news for Edinburgh... the Lions have taken the lead against the Stormers.

It's very early on, at least.

  8. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Benetton 5-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh field a long kick. Jake Henry is smashed, before James Lang throws the ball straight out of play.

Alessandro Izekor is back on and it's Benetton who somehow take advantage of that period with a man disadvantage.

  9. try

Try BENETTON 5-0 Edinburghpublished at 8 mins

    Ignacio Mendy

The 14-men have scored, but Edinburgh are not happy about it.

James Lang spilled a high ball and Benetton ran it in from half way. It's a break from Nacho Brex and after drawing defenders, he offloads to Mendy who canters in.

Edinburgh are adamant that there's a few blocks in there. Chris Dean and Duhan van der Merwe threw their hands in the air as they tried to defend, but the try stands.

Rhyno Smith drags the kick wide.

  10. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Benetton 0-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh are back in Benetton's 22m after a fantastic break from Ali Price - but again, they spill.

It's started at 100mph but that's now two missed opportunities. Chaotic stuff.

  11. Sin-bin - Alessandro Izekor (Benetton)published at 2 mins

    Benetton 0-0 Edinburgh

There's an early Edinburgh penalty and Ali Price takes it quickly. He's tackled by Alessandro Izekor who isn't back 10 metres.

Then Price knocks on but the visitors have the advantage. It's a yellow card for Izekor, too.

Edinburgh chose to throw, five metres out, but they give away the penalty for coming in at the side of the maul. Sloppy attack early on.

  12. Edinburgh 'still performing within themselves'published at 1 min

    Benetton 0-0 Edinburgh

A quick glance at the URC table tells you Edinburgh have 11 wins from their 17 URC matches so far this season. That’s the same as Ulster and the Stormers and just one fewer than the Bulls and defending champions Munster.

And yet you can’t help but feel Sean Everitt’s side are still performing within themselves. With the talent at their disposal, they really should not be reaching the final round with their playoff hopes still up in the air.

They can lay down a marker here with the victory they need to keep their fate in their own hands, and a performance to offer hope that, if they do reach the playoffs, they can do more than simply make up the numbers.

  13. Kick-offpublished at 0 mins

    Benetton 0-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh have not enjoyed many wins in Treviso over the years. They need that to change this afternoon.

Ben Healy gets us under way. Ben Whitehouse is the referee and Aled Griffiths is the TMO.

Of course, it's not just play-off qualification at stake. Only the top seven teams go through to the Champions Cup.

  14. Fighting talk from Gilchristpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Edinburgh skipper Grant Gilchrist tells Premier Sports: "We're really excited. It's the equivalent of a last 16 knockout game, it's do-or-die and this is why you play and train - to play in games like this.

"There's no need for extra motivation. Our season is on the line. We have to prove we're a top eight side and if we win today, we'll deserve to be in the play-offs.

"We see not making the top eight as failure. It's success or failure today, there's no in between."

  15. About last night...published at 12:58 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Glasgow certainly got pulses racing last night, for all the wrong reasons.

Zebre, sat bottom of the table with nothing to play for, almost caused an almighty upset by beating the Warriors at home.

However, a late Glasgow rally stopped an embarrassing defeat but the 38-26 win has prompted concern and doubt over their title charge. Have they peaked too soon?

Elsewhere, Leinster pumped Connacht 33-7 meaning it's now only Ospreys or Lions who could catch Edinburgh.

  16. Everitt heaps praise on centurion Crosbiepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt says latest centurion Luke Crosbie "wears the castle in his heart" as the 27-year-old reaches his milestone cap for his boyhood club.

"He's a warrior, he wears the castle in his heart and he certainly gives his best every time he takes the field," said Everitt.

"We're very proud for what Luke's going to achieve in his 100th game. Before I came in, there was big talk around Luke. He had won all the Edinburgh awards last year.

"He followed that up with some really good performances. That's why he got to start in the first Six Nations game of the championship this year, then unfortunately picked up an injury."

  17. Five changes for Benettonpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Benetton have certainly gone 'full noise' with a very recognisable for any Six Nations followers.

Four of the five changes come in the forward pack, with Giacomo Nicotera, Niccolo Cannone, Toa Halafihi and Italy captain Michele Lamaro coming in. Argentina fly-half Tomas Albarnoz also starts.

Gianmarco Lucchesi and Lorenzo Cannone drop to the bench, with Scott Scrafton, Sebastian Negri, and Leonardo Marin missing out completely.

  18. Four Edinburgh changes as Crosbie reaches 100published at 12:50 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Luke Crosbie will make his 100th Edinburgh appearance, with the flanker starting ahead of Hamish Watson to reach the landmark as Sean Everitt makes four changes.

Injury woes for Wes Goosen means James Lang starts at full-back with Matt Currie and Chris Dean making up the midfield meaning Mark Bennett moves to the bench.

Ali Price is the starting scrum-half this week as Ben Vellacott starts on the bench.

  20. Buongiorno!published at 12:46 British Summer Time 1 June

    Benetton v Edinburgh (13:00)

Good afternoon and welcome to the north east of Italy for Edinburgh's all-or-nothing URC clash against Benetton.

It's the final game of the regular league season but it's not quite as simple as win or bust for Sean Everitt's side. A few results going their way could see them progress to the play-offs despite defeat.

But to make absolutely sure of their place in the next stage of the competition, it's effectively a must-win.

Right then, let's have a look at the teams.
