Performance centre honouring 'voice of rugby' Butler opened

A new performance facility honouring the late broadcaster and former Wales rugby captain Eddie Butler has been unveiled at Haberdashers' Monmouth School.

The Eddie Butler Performance Centre, which includes a state-of-the-art gym, was opened on Saturday with members of Butler's family, former team-mates and pupils in attendance.

Butler, who captained Wales in the 1980s before becoming one of rugby's most recognisable voices as a commentator, was a former pupil of the school. He died in 2022 while on a charity trek in Peru, aged 65.

The centre aims to inspire current and future generations of young athletes, while serving as a lasting tribute to Butler's legacy both on and off the field.
