  2. O'Sullivan closes in on Crucible quarter-final number 22published at 22:13 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 10-6 Day

Seven-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan only needs three more frames to beat Wales' Ryan Day and move into the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship for a 22nd time.

O'Sullivan leads 10-6 against the world number 18, with the match being played to a finish on Monday afternoon from 13:00 BST.

The Englishman held a 5-3 lead after the first session and won five of the first six frames in the evening session, helped by impressive breaks of 82, 65, 89, 56 and 96.

But Day, a first-round winner over 15th seed Barry Hawkins, ended the day strongly with breaks of 72 and 75 to claim the last two frames.

Nevertheless, O'Sullivan will still be a strong favourite to advance into the last eight, where he would meet either Jack Lisowski, 17th in the rankings, or 2015 champion Stuart Bingham.

Kyren Wilson, the 12th seed and Crucible finalist in 2020, gained a 10-1 victory over 52-year-old Dominic Dale in the first round and is in control of his last-16 match with Joe O'Connor.

The world number 30 defeated fellow Leicester player Mark Selby in a first-round shock, but has it all to do on Monday. Wilson leads O'Connor 10-6 and only needs three more frames to set up a quarter-final with either Mark Allen or John Higgins.

Joe would probably rather the match continued right now.

He will feel so much better with himself. He has composure in spades despite his inexperience at this level.

  4. O'Connor wins final frame with a centurypublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 10-6 O'Connor

And that's the frame! A superb century from Joe O'Connor who started the session 6-2 down and is still four frames behind, but it could have been a lot worse.

  5. O'Connor's chancepublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 10-5 O'Connor

Can Joe O'Connor win the last frame of the evening? He's got a big chance here to make it 10-6 overnight and give himself a fighting chance of closing the gap on Monday afternoon.

  6. 'Day will sleep much better'published at 21:55 British Summer Time 28 April

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Four

Ryan will sleep much better being just four behind - it keeps Ronnie three from the line. Plenty of matches have been won here from 10-6 behind, not so many from 11-5.

You could see Ronnie's frustration after the miss on the red. When they bumped fists at the end, he left the arena at pace.

He was extremely annoyed by the miss and you could possibly say he's a bit fortunate the session came to an end because that type of frustration can eat away at you and poison you while you're out there.

    Wilson 10-5 O'Connor

    Shaun Murphy

Kyren Wilson is showing the signs of someone who has put a lot of work in and knows how well they are playing.

He builds his life and career around these majors and it's only a matter of time before he wins one.

  8. Ruthless Wilson extends leadpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 10-5 O'Connor

Kyren Wilson strikes back immediately, knocking in a composed and pretty rapid break of 86.

Must be hard for debutant Joe O'Connor watching that from his chair.

A big couple of frames at the end there for the Welshman.

A 75 break keeps him in with a sniff against the world number one.

If Ryan wins this frame it will annoy Ronnie.

I'm still not giving Ryan a lot of chance of winning the match - but it would give him some hope.

Bit of a cue-waving display of petulance from Ronnie O'Sullivan after a poor miss on a red.

Ryan Day's not happy with his cue tip after that aforementioned miscue and taking his time with his chalking action - but the reds are well placed for him to at least build a healthy lead in this final frame of the session.

Something about his cue tip has been bothering Ronnie O'Sullivan the past frame or two.

He's in a different postcode with a long red attempt.

But Ryan Day has his own tip trouble too, miscuing a black when playing with deep screw to hand the world number one an opportunity to take an overnight six-frame lead.

There's a stripped-back purity to snooker at the Crucible that you won't find at some gold-plated hotel complex in Dubai. Greatness or cash seems to be the option if a new tour appears.

  14. 'Break evidence of what Day has in tank'published at 21:38 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 10-5 Day

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Two

I don't think there will be many people thinking Ryan can go on and win this match.

Right now it's about putting a good account of himself and gaining some pride in his performance, not wanting to lose super-heavily to O'Sullivan, as many have here, myself included.

That break was evidence of what he has in the tank and if he does that a few more times, he could make the match a bit more interesting but I don't think anyone is predicting anything other than an O'Sullivan procession to the winning line.

  15. Battling O'Connor cuts the deficitpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 9-5 O'Connor

Joe O'Connor is going for his shots, trying to get something started but he's struggling to stay in position.

A couple of nice reds go in but not much comes of either. He's slowly inching ahead and finally gets over the line to take the frame.

The world number 30 is hanging in there.

  17. Day delivers to reduce deficitpublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 10-5 Day

Ryan Day had lost five of the first six frames of this evening session.

But the 44-year-old knocks in a fine 77 break to get another one on the board and keep that little glimmer of hope alive.

First to 13, remember - so he'll surely need tonight's upcoming final frame to keep that flicker burning.

However, an O'Sullivan miss - and there have been plenty of those today - brings Ryan Day back to the table.

The reds are nicely placed and he really should pull a frame back here.

    O'Sullivan 10-4 Day

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Four

I have to say he's folded under the pressure. There's no other way of putting it, I'm afraid.

He's just not been able to compose himself, stay relaxed.

I'm not saying it's easy. But he'll be disappointed when he thinks back to the chances he's had all day.

    O'Sullivan 10-4 Day

    Ryan Day is feeling it.

A poor Ronnie O'Sullivan break-off shot leaves him a red over the middle.

The world number 18 pots it, and the blue to follow, but misses the next red - one he'll think he really should have potted.
