I think how open some of the old guard are, talking about their willingness to potentially jump ship is hugely alarming for the game. 30 years on and these guys are still the big draw, without them the game won’t be the same.

I don't think Ronnie's been out of second gear tonight but he's not been put under any pressure because Ryan Day keeps missing easy balls and not capitalising on the chances he's had.

So it's been a very comfortable evening for Ronnie.

  3. 'Rocket' launches into double figurespublished at 21:19 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 10-4 Day

A simply superb red to the middle keeps Ronnie O'Sullivan's hopes of a century break alive - but a double on the final red catches the jaw.

Nonetheless, a break of 96 opens up a six-frame cushion for the seven-time world champion who is within touching distance of yet another Crucible quarter-final.

Kyren Wilson made that break look so easy with his positional play and strong cueing.

It was the very essence of someone who is a master of their craft making something look very easy, when it isn't.

Ronnie O'Sullivan back in at the start of the frame 14.

A yellow just about struggles in off the jaw when it looked likelier to miss.

And I speak of behalf of club players everywhere when I say I have no idea how that went in.

  6. Wilson in total controlpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 9-4 O'Connor

Kyren Wilson knocks in a superb 58 break, showing all his cueing power, and extends his lead to five.

    He's cruising.

There are a lot of average players on the tour. Staying top 16 is tough and requires hard graft and application. If someone offers easy money, not many will turn it down. The Saudi football league is clear proof. Fourth rate competition, first rate renumeration. Cash is king.

Gluk Vanstone: If the split starts then it will inevitably end with the new buying the old so that the leavers can play in the most watched tournaments. No snooker fan will watch a cash-backed made-up cup in Qatar (for example) over the Masters.

The break of 56 in that frame... if you set the balls up in that position and said, make a 50+ break from here, there's very few players who could do it.

But Ronnie's safety play and tactical nous is something we don't talk a great deal about.

  9. O'Sullivan moves five frames clearpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 9-4 Day

Day left himself too far from that final red to get a snooker - and a couple of shots later he leaves it over the corner pocket for Ronnie O'Sullivan.

A lengthy, scrappy post-interval frame comes to an end - and the 'Rocket' is five frames to the good.

Well, Ryan Day needs three snookers to tie but is playing on after Ronnie O'Sullivan's brilliant break ends on 56.

Day should have an easy first snooker, mind - as the final red is right next to the brown.

But it's still a tall order.

    He's rising to that challenge.

After Ryan Day left a red over the middle, O'Sullivan has the major colours back on their spots and developed as many reds as he needs.

He's on the verge of a five-frame lead.

It's almost like a challenge for Ronnie O'Sullivan when you get a table as awkward as this.

How can he work out the puzzle and win a frame in his visit?

Stephen Maguire: "If there’s another opportunity that does not mean Barnsley or Leicester I would seriously think about it"?! Here's an alternative option if you think Barnsley (or Leicester, for that matter) is so bad.... Improve your game, that way we won't need to suffer your moaning through qualifying!

Re. Snooker breakaway tour. Surely lessons have to be learnt from the PGA and LIV split, which has just resulted in worse competition on both sides. Why does an influx of money and development have to be a breakaway? Can't the World Snooker Tour be improved upon through discussion and a common goal with all parties?

  14. Frame 13 proving unlucky - for allpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 8-4 Day

Long safety exchange going on here. It's a bit dull and tough to see how that will change for a little while.

Most of the reds situated over the left side of the table with the majority of the points scored so far in this first frame after the interval - O'Sullivan 20-6 Day - coming via fouls.

Ryan Day could double as a cartographer.

In huge trouble from an O'Sullivan safety, he plots a route for the cue ball between a plethora of red balls and back to baulk. Bravo.

Both Joe O'Connor and Ryan Day have got to their first targets tonight - four frames - meaning that neither match on either table can be completed on Sunday.

Good news for fans that have tickets for Monday's afternoon's session, which starts at 13:00 BST, instead of the usual 14:30 BST, with no morning session.

O'Connor and Day still have a huge task on their hands though as they trail 4-8 to Kyren Wilson and Ronnie O'Sullivan respectively.

  18. O'Connor break of 70published at 20:43 British Summer Time 28 April

    Wilson 8-4 O'Connor

Joe O'Connor gets another chance as Wilson messes up and the Leicester debutant makes his opponent pay with his highest break of the match, a fine 70.

It's been hard work out there and that'll make him feel a lot better.

Time for some refreshments - it's the interval.

    When it rains, it pours.

Ryan Day attempts a safety but it turns into an unintentional three-ball plant on the black to concede seven foul points.

Oh and leaves the cue ball behind the yellow for good measure so O'Sullivan puts him back in. Decent escape from Day to limit the damage.

Meanwhile, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Ryan Day are back out in the Crucible arena.

A 'Rocket' foul gives Day a free ball but, as has been the story of the match, he fails to make much of it.
