It is all about settling down for Jak Jones here and getting a frame on the board.

Graeme Dott was 5-0 up against Ronnie O'Sullivan in the 2004 World Championship final but the Englishman still came back to win 18-8.

And in perhaps the most famous Crucible final of them all, six-time champion Steve Davis led Dennis Taylor 7-0 at the end of the first session and then took the opening frame in the next to go 8-0 up.

Taylor ended up prevailing 18-17, winning on the final black in a match that gripped the world.

The missus made an incredible match side-snack dispenser. All balls made of a well-known peanut choc snack. Breadstick cues. Hopefully Jak goes on longer than the nibbles!

At this point in time, Jak Jones probably can't believe how difficult the game of snooker is.

We're seeing the brutal nature of the game here - one is in the ascendancy, full of confidence and the other sat in his chair, feeling complete devastation.

The worrying thing for Jak Jones is the distance he's missing some of his pot attempts by.

In fairness Kyren Wilson is not leaving him many gimmes but Jones has had some chances and yet struggled to string double-figure breaks together.

Another couple of half-chances go awry and Wilson is back in among the balls after knocking in a plant.

Kyren Wilson has tasted plenty of success over the past decade.

But he's yet to lift a Triple Crown title, having lost both here in the 2020 final to Ronnie O'Sullivan and, previously, the 2018 Masters final, to Mark Allen.

Is this his year? It's looking increasingly like it.

When you haven't had much table time, the tension grows up your arm. You don't have the same looseness or feeling and you start to hit the balls harder.

    He's too tense now.

It's now about damage limitation for Jak Jones in this first session.

Losing it only 5-3 or 6-2 could make all the difference come the end of the match - he's got to try to get the most out of this session.

He knows he's lost the session but can he give himself something to cling on to for tonight?

In an interview with Jak Jones shown during the interval, seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry noted there were not too many snooker players with beards.

Can you recall any? Or any great sporting beards that you remember?

We're here for the big discussions!!

The way the reds are sitting, he doesn't have to play any cannons.

They are all available - OK there are a couple on cushions but the rest are all in the open.

No sign of any improvement in fortunes for Jak Jones.

Kyren Wilson missed a red and left a decent chance for the Welshman, but he fails to take it and cannons into the pack in the process, leaving reds aplenty available.

It's obviously an important frame for the guy on zero, you want to get a frame.

But it's also important for the player who is 4-0 up because you want to keep the momentum up and intervals can interrupt that, so Kyren will want to keep his foot on the pedal.

Kevin Smith: Will there be an evening session on Monday?

Josneat: Could this be the first final that a player doesn’t win one frame!?

Note: We have 17 frames today and eight in Monday's afternoon session. It's first to 18 so any player needs to get at least eight frames to force the final evening session.

Kyren Wilson does not waste any time whatsoever to deepen Jak Jones' woes.

Tight on the baulk cushion with the cue ball, he strokes in a sumptuous long red.

Another cracker follows soon after. He wants to break the back of this final today, the 'Warrior'.

The pundits intrigued that Jak Jones did not head to the practice table during that mid-session interval.

ColinAFC: This is over already.. Jak got away with not scoring heavily enough against Bingham yesterday. He ain't gonna get away with missing easy shots and poor safeties against Kyren.. Congrats Kyren Wilson, 2024 world champion.

    Has Colin gone too early?

He's got off to a flier. OK he's not potted everything but he's really kept Jak off the table.

Kyren will be very satisfied with those four frames.

It remains to be seen when Jak can get going, how far he is behind at that point and whether he can eat into that lead.

It feels like Kyren has a very good chance to build a big overnight lead - I know there's a long way to go but it does happen in finals.

Nicola Dundas: Wilson 4-0. At the mid-session interval, history tells us that the eventual winner is only behind on 11 occasions since 1980 (44 finals). That’s 25%. So even at this stage, there are clear messages for who is likely to triumph in the end. Still long way to go!!

Interesting. We'll trust you on the stats, Nicola!

  20. Wilson takes first four on spinpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 5 May

    Wilson 4-0 Jones

Kyren Wilson leaves himself frame-ball red along the cushion and rolls it in.

Well, not quite frame-ball - 59 the difference with 59 on, and Wilson misses the black.

But Jak Jones leaves a red over the bag and that will be that.
