    Boulter 2-2 Sierra*

Straightforward hold for Katie Boulter. That should help her to settle down.

There is another double fault from the 28-year-old Brit but it comes when she's up 40-0 and with Solana Sierra's sliced backhand drifting wide on the next point, it doesn't prove costly.

  2. Alcaraz holdspublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 2 July

Some impressive defence from Ollie Tarvet but he can only keep Carlos Alcaraz out for so long.

The Spaniard holds to keep us on serve.

    Mark Woodforde
17-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It's fantastic to watch and I really think if he (Tarvet) spends another 12 months back at his university and keeps working on his game, we will see this young fellow in main draw for many years to come.

  4. Sierra holdspublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Boulter 1-2 Sierra

It's Solana Sierra's turn to see her serve malfunction with a pair of double faults of her own.

That lets Katie Boulter back in from 40-0 down but the Argentine's serve comes back in the nick of time with a big ace out wide.

Boulter then plinks a forehand into the net and we have the first hold of the match.

It's easy when there's so much of a gap in the ranking to just walk out on the court being the victim and it being about how long you can last on the court and not feeling ridiculous.

Oliver Tarvet walked out on the court today really thinking I'm going to give Carlos Alcaraz a run for his money and let's see where that takes me.

I really like that about his attitude because it's not easy to do.

  6. Tarvet holdspublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Alcaraz 6-1 2-3 Tarvet

    Ollie Tarvet's simplest hold yet.

He keeps his nose in front in this second set with a comfortable service game.

The pantomime has come to Centre Court.

After a fella leaps up to catch a stray ball - and nearly falls down a row after fumbling it - the crowd urge the recipient behind him to keep the ball.

Oh no, says a sharply-dressed and stern steward. Not on his watch. That's going to the used balls bank, thank you.

Boos rain towards him and both of his hands go up in apology.

  8. Sierra breaks backpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 2 July

    Boulter 1-1 Sierra*

Superb response from Solana Sierra to break back immediately.

Katie Boulter is having issues with her serve again with the second of two double faults giving Sierra break point.

The Brit then gets a first serve in for the first time but it's thumped back past her for a winner by Sierra.

    Back on serve.

    *Boulter 1-0 Sierra

    Clare Mcdonnell

A very good start for Katie Boulter and she's looking confident. I always think with Boulter is that she walks tall on any tennis court, she really holds her head high and pulls her shoulders back.

She kind of marches around the court and she gives off very very positive vibes.

  10. Alcaraz holdspublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 2 July

    Alcaraz 6-1 2-2 Tarvet*

Carlos Alcaraz holds and he'll be pleased with some minor improvements in his service game there.

He fires two into Ollie Tarvet's body and finishes off the game with a deft forehand volley.

Billy Harris is still battling in this match.

He moves ahead in the third set after whacking a forehand past Nuno Borges.

Harris pumps his fist in relief as the Briton keeps fighting.

  12. Boulter breaks earlypublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Boulter 1-0 Sierra

What a start for Katie Boulter!

With Solana Sierra showing a few signs of nerves in the biggest match of her career so far, Boulter races into a 0-40 lead.

Sierra saves the first two break points but a double fault gives the Brit the ideal start on Court One.

  13. Alcaraz breaks backpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Alcaraz 6-1 1-2 Tarvet

Ollie Tarvet's well-earned break is lost in the blink of an eye as Carlos Alcaraz instantly breaks back.

The Spaniard wins four points in a row and gives a roar of "vamos" as he makes his way to his chair.

Another chance for Tarvet - and this time he takes it! Finally.

Centre Court bangs up the volume as the British qualifier wags his finger in the air like prime Brazilian Ronaldo.

"Ollie, Ollie, Ollie! Oi, oi, oi!" is the chant.

The Wimbledon crowd clearly read his interview with BBC Sport this morning. Only his mother calls him Oliver - when he's in bother.

    Well, well, well!

Ollie Tarvet's aggressive approach to this second set pays off.

After eight missed break point opportunities, the Brit takes his ninth to take a break lead in the second set.

    Game on!

Game, set and match - Heliovaara & Pattenpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 2 July

    Evans/Searle 6-7 (4-7) 4-6 Heliovaara/Patten

The 2024 champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara progress at the expense of British pair Dan Evans and Henry Searle.

After a rally at the net, Patten's angled shot sails past Searle.

A valiant effort, but only one Brit is happy with the outcome today and that's Patten.

Dan Evans, Henry Searle, Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara shake hands

A huge roar has just gone up from court 12, which can only mean one thing. Brazilian star Joao Fonseca has completed victory - and his delighted supporters want everyone to know about it.

The cheers for Carlos Alcaraz and Ollie Tarvet from Centre Court can also be clearly heard on the outside courts, and the players in action out here are trying not to let it distract them.

Dan Evans whacks the net with his racquet in frustration as Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara reach match point, and the defending champions will not be denied!

A great effort from Evans and Henry Searle nonetheless, and top entertainment for those with a front-row view.

  19. Tarvet holdspublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Alcaraz 6-1 0-1 Tarvet

Ollie Tarvet goes 40-0 up but lets Carlos Alcaraz back in with a couple of sloppy shots.

The clearly frustrated Brit mutters under his breath before serving a thunderous wide serve, which Alcaraz can't return.

He fist pumps as he holds for a second time in the match.

  20. Boulter next up on Court Onepublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 2 July

    It's Katie Boulter time again!

After a brilliant win over ninth seed Paula Badosa on Monday, the British number two takes on Argentina's Solana Sierra and has just walked out on Court One.

Boulter, who is aiming to match her previous best performance at Wimbledon by reaching the third round, was a big underdog in the first round but she goes in as favourite today.

Twenty-one-year-old Sierra is playing in the main draw at the All England Club for the first time, it's just her third Grand Slam appearance and she had never previously made it past the first round.

Cristina Busca of Spain awaits the winner.
