    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One

Pavlyuchenkova has tried a few drop-shots so far, to no avail.

There are so many variables in this match. Kartal looks great so far, but how well will she handle winning three major matches in a row? She is so good, but sometimes she can make a lot of mistakes. You never know which player is going to show up.

Now the smile is plastered across Sonay Kartal's face after sprinting to the new to meet a drop shot and return a winner. 0-30.

How she managed to slam on the brakes to avoid touching the net is beyond me!

  3. Kartal's service motionpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 July

If you're watching and thinking that Sonay Kartal's service motion is a little unorthodox, you'd be right.

She has had to adapt it following a shoulder injury. She says she hopes to go back to a full service motion one day but at the moment this one is working pretty well.

Jordan Thompson has retired and this one is over.

The Australian gave it everything he could but after attempting to carry on for a game following the medical time out, he decided enough was enough.

I was going to save that snippet for later but Leon Smith has let the cat out of the bag now.

Yes, not only will victory see Sonay Kartal into the quarter-finals but it will also confirm her as the new British number one in the live rankings.

  7. 'Kartal won't be thinking about British number one'published at 13:51 British Summer Time 6 July

    *Kartal 1-2 Pavlyuchenkova

    Leon Smith
GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

I don't think Sonay Kartal will be thinking too much about becoming British number one with a win here.

I think what she will be thinking about is whether she can get to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon and then whether she can begin to close in as a seeding at Grand Slams.

Now that would be some run.

A big response from the crowd as Kartal offers an immediate response to going down a break of serve.

She jogs back to her chair as if to say 'I'm up for this now'.

Taking a few games to settle has been a feature of her matches at this tournament.

    *Kartal 1-2 Pavlyuchenkova

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One

This is an opportunity for both players, to be unseeded and into the fourth round of a major.

Pavlyuchenkova has the biggest serve out of the two and she will need to use that because she doesn't have the same mobility that Kartal does.

    Kartal 0-2 Pavlyuchenkova*

    Naomi Cavaday
Former British tennis player on BBC TV

There are early signs of what Pavlyuchenkova is all about. Lovely compact swings and good aggression, some firm strikes as well.

Both are looking to get off the mark safely but Kartal needs to be wary on her second serves.

While the rest of us were taking cover as another bang of thunder signalled the start of a torrential downpour, the ground staff were working hard to make sure the courts are quickly covered.

Unlike some of us, they did at least remember to bring their rain jackets today…

  19. Deucepublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 6 July

    *Kartal 0-1 Pavlyuchenkova

A little bit of a muted response from the crowd after that Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova hold but there's a huge cheer when Sonay Kartal goes 15-0 up.

Kartal puts a forehand long to trail 15-30 and is already facing a question or two as they go to deuce.

The Briton is struggling to land her first serve at the moment.

  20. 'Pavlyuchenkova isn't what she used to be'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 6 July

    Kartal 0-1 Pavlyuchenkova*

    Leon Smith
GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

This is a huge moment for Sonay Kartal, but also for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

She is one of the most experienced players on tour. She is up there with the highest number of matches played at Grand Slams out of any of the current players. She is a former Grand Slam finalist as well.

So she carries a huge amount of experience, but she isn't what she used to be.
