    Wimbledon - day seven

All play on the outside courts has been suspended because of rain and there won't be any action until 14:15 BST at the earliest.

Luckily, we have cover over Centre Court and Court One so we have some tennis to talk about!

We shouldn't be too alarmed about the strapping on Sonay's knee, I have been told that it is nothing to worry about. Playing on grass does take its toll on the body.

Kartal's movement is her greatest strength and her ability to turn defence into attack. She looks fit as a fiddle at the moment.

I think that playing on Centre Court is going to be a different thing for Sonay Kartal altogether, but something tells me she is going to be able to cope with it.

Even though she was a bit overwhelmed out on court one the other day, she settled very quickly.

I just feel there is something in the way she is so composed and calm. She takes everything in her stride, she is never fazed by anything, she is never intimidated by opponents - so I think she will be able to handle her Centre Court debut.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beat four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets on Friday to book a date with home hope Sonay Kartal.

In 15 previous Wimbledon campaigns, Pavlyuchenkova has only reached the fourth round once. She made it to the quarter-finals in 2016.

The 34-year-old Russian's best-ever run at a Grand Slam came in 2021 when she reached the final of the French Open.

Pavlyuchenkova has picked up 12 WTA Tour titles but has not won any on grass.

We do have some news on the knee strap for Sonay Kartal.

Speaking to BBC Sport's Laura Scott, Kartal said: "I'm all good. I'm testing out a few things, see if I wanted it tomorrow or not. But no, I'm all good."

    That's new...

Let's hope that's nothing too serious.

Well, that didn't take long, did it?

Taylor Fritz breezes through the first set, winning with a double break.

Jordan Thompson's carrying an apparent back problem and the American is capitalising on every weakness right now.

Immediately after I had written that previous entry, the players are taken off the court after just four points.

The chair umpire explains play is suspended for player safety, with the grass already slippery as the rain drops begin to fall slightly heavier now.

I can’t lie, I just jumped as a flash of lightning strikes and the increasingly loud thunder feels directly above us now.

No more tennis out here for a little while, that’s for sure.

There's an interview running with Sonay Kartal on the BBC One broadcast at the moment and the Briton said she got goosebumps when stepping out on Court One for her third round match.

I wonder how she's feeling making her debut on Centre Court with the nation behind her?

One of Sonay Kartal's 14 tattoos reads "the show must go on".

She says the phrase is not linked to any specific event, but after a series of injuries and the challenges of self-funding her career, it could easily have referred to the Briton's impressive performance on one of the biggest stages in tennis.

Kartal powered her way into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time on Friday, winning nine games in a row on her way to a 6-4 6-2 victory over France's Diane Parry.

A rising star of British tennis, this time last year she was just inside the top 300 in the world but now she sits 51st, and will rise further after her displays at her home Grand Slam.

Having seen off 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko in the first round and then breezing past Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets, the 23-year-old produced arguably the biggest performance of her career against Parry.

Next she will face world number 50 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who knocked out Naomi Osaka in round three.

The roof is on Centre Court and it is HOT.

It feels very stuffy - could that come into play today?

A huge roar from the crowd on Centre Court as Sonay Kartal and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova walk out.

Kartal, knowing that support is largely for her, looks up, takes it all in and has a little smile on her face.

The Briton has heavy strapping on her right knee but is bouncing freely at the net as they wait for the coin toss.

    And echoing Harry's thoughts...

A round of 'ooooooh' from the crowd as a loud rumble of thunder bellows overhead.

And one very loud one as the player's walked out onto Centre Court. Something quite ominous about that.

  17. Kartal a 'role model' in women's gamepublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 6 July

    Kartal v Pavlyuchenkova (13:30 BST)

Sonay Kartal's journey to where she is now will be an inspiration for so many young tennis players.

From funding her own participation in the game to now the fourth round of Wimbledon.

BBC Sport pundits Tim Henman and Anne Keothavong discussed "role model" Kartal after her second-round win.

Jordan Thompson works as hard as anyone else and it is good to see him getting his just rewards for the hard work he has put in over the years. He is look a little bit stiff out there at the moment.

Fritz's second serve is vulnerable. He doesn't hit it as hard so you will see Thompson try to come in on it.

    Oooh heck.

I’d just sat down on court two to see Solana Sierra in her bid to become the first lucky loser to reach a quarter-final in the women’s singles at a Grand Slam, up against Laura Siegemund, when we heard an almighty rumble of thunder above us.

It is spitting, and concerned spectators look nervously at the sky as the rumbles continue, but we’re under way - for now…

Men's doubles top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic have squeaked past Czech duo Patrik Rikl and Petr Nouza to claim their last 16 spot.

It was a straight-set 7-5 7-6 (15-13) victory but, as the scoreline suggests, it wasn't easy pickings on court three.

After one hour and 14 minutes on court, the match was forced to a second set tie-break which couldn't have been any tighter. Both pairs battled it out for around 20 minutes, before the world number ones found the breakthrough on their fifth match point.

They will face either 10th seeds Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin or unseeded duo Adam Pavlasek and Jan Zielinski in the fourth round at SW19.
