So, Great Britain win the tie against Germany.

The doubles match will still be played but the pressure is off slightly for the British team. However, the result could come into play further down the line.

A tough couple of days for Germany, who lost the tie against the Netherlands 3-0 yesterday too and that means they are out of the running for top spot in Group F.

  5. 'It was tough, but I'm proud of myself' - Boulterpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 11 April

    Boulter 1-6 6-3 6-1 Maria

Katie Boulter speaking on court after beating Tatjana Maria: "It was a really tough match, especially being my first one on clay. It was hard to come out against someone who has played so well on clay and Tatjana made it difficult for me at the beginning. But I am very proud of myself for how I came back and played in the second and third set.

"I just kept believing in myself. I was struggling to get used to her [Maria's] ball bounce, but the moment I found that, I felt like I was in control of the game. She is so difficult and so experienced so it definitely wasn't easy for me."

On the doubles match: "We feel confident for the match and I trust the girls. I can't wait to see them come out and have fun, especially with the crowd behind them."

What an excellent effort by Katie Boulter to win ten of the last eleven games of the match and get a fifteenth win for her country in this competition.

She was not enjoying the Maria slice one bit in the first set, but was able to impose herself and power through to victory.

The doubles will be played, but the result is academic. Germany are out - and Saturday’s tie between GB and the Netherlands will determine who goes through to September’s eight team finals.

To come back from a set down was a really difficult challenge but Boulter worked it out.

She played very methodically and by the end, she was far too good.

Maria has really found it difficult recently. Once Boulter found her strike, she couldn't live with the pace.

Boulter has been able to drag this match to her game style early in the rallies. Some super footwork from her to run around and play her forehands. Surely she can finish this now?

Maria is looking to extend this a little bit further just to buy herself some time.

Some solid serving from Tatjana Maria looks like it could be enough to see her take the hold and force Katie Boulter to serve it out. But the Brit comes back at her and sends us to deuce with a lovely backhand drop shot.

It feels like everything that Maria is trying is just not sticking.

Boulter looks confident. The strike from her at the back of the court has a little bit more shape to it and she is able to drive it through with a flatter slice.

Maria has been a difficult puzzle to work out, but it looks like Boulter has cracked it. This is the time for Maria to really dig down and use all of her experience.

We are seeing such a different performance from Boulter to the one we saw at the start of this match. She is getting used to the surface and the challenging game of Maria.

Maria is still very much in this if she can get a few games under her belt but at the moment, there is just no stopping Boulter.

Maria has done so well to slam the breaks on before this match ran away with her.
