  1. Fognini holdspublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 7-5 0-1 Fognini

Under pressure after being pegged back to 30-30, Fabio Fognini produces a gorgeous backhand drop volley to earn a game point.

A tame backhand makes it deuce but more good work at the net ensures the Italian gets the hold to start the second set.

That feels like an important one for the 38-year-old.

  2. 'A bit different'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 30 June

The next Briton up to the plate is Jacob Fearnley.

Fearnley faces rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca on Court One.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Worcester, was ranked outside the top 500 just a month before making his Wimbledon debut against Novak Djokovic last year, but he now sits just outside the top 50.

"It is a bit different," he told BBC Sport. "I have to keep reminding myself that this is still a really special place and not to take it for granted.

"Coming in as a wildcard last year I was in complete awe and, to be honest, I still am. I get goosebumps when I walk in the gates."

    .

Spanish and British fans are mingling at a packed Court 18, where the standing areas are a couple of rows deep in parts.

“Is this hotter than Spain?” one spectator asks someone who is presumably Spanish.

The answer is no it is not, with temperatures in Madrid currently 36C.

To be fair, both Cameron Norrie and Roberto Bautista Agut are handling the high temperatures here.

  4. 'I'm super grateful to be healthy'published at 14:38 British Summer Time 30 June

World number one Aryna Sabalenka speaking on Court One after her first-round win: "I'm super happy to be back, to be healthy and to compete at this beautiful tournament. I was really depressed last year that I couldn't feel this atmosphere. I'm super happy with the performance of course. I'm super happy to get through.

"Thank you guys for bringing such a great atmosphere. Honestly, if somebody told me that one day I would play my first match at Wimbledon with a full stadium, I wouldn't believe it. Thank you so much for coming."

On the difference between the first and second sets: "I don't think she was serving that great in the first set but then in the second set she was serving at 120mph, which is crazy. She has such a great serve. I was lucky to break in one game and get this win. It was a tough match and a tough second set."

On her high spirits coming into Wimbledon: "I'm super grateful to be healthy. I think that's why I'm happy and enjoying every moment on and off the court. I feel I'm in a good place."

Right, I'll say it... Centre Court feels weird without line judges and I'm not sure I like it.

It just lacks a bit of pomp, a bit of theatre and stripping away the human element - especially ones so iconic and elegantly dressed - kills a bit of the vibe.

The volume on the automated calls needs turning up, too.

Ultimately, Centre Court feels a bit empty without them.

I must stress, these are personal views and not those of the BBC...

  6. Game and third set - Popyrinpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 30 June

    Popyrin 4-6 1-6 6-4 0-0 Fery*

Alexei Popyrin looks a different player to the one that went two sets down just over half an hour ago.

But Arthur Fery cannot be discounted that easily. At 40-0 down, Fery manages to put the 20th seed under pressure with some big groundstrokes and bring it back to 40-30.

Another big serve, however, and Popyrin coolly takes the point and with it, the third set.

Can wildcard Fery turn things around in the fourth and cause an opening round upset?

  7. Game and first set - Alcarazpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 7-5 0-0 Fognini*

It's not been straightforward for him but Carlos Alcaraz but he takes the first set.

A hold to love, bookended by a couple of big aces, get the job done.

He'll be delighted with those after struggling with his serve throughout that set - his first serve percentage was just 53% - and will hope to kick on in the second.

Fabio Fognini will rue those five missed break points.

  8. Alcaraz breakspublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 6-5 Fognini

Carlos Alcaraz gets the break after a brilliant rally!

After a succession of powerful forehands, Alcaraz changes it up with superb drop shot.

Fabio Fognini gets there but can do nothing about near-perfect lob volley from Alcaraz.

The Spaniard had missed an earlier break point when he sent a forehand long but gets the next and will serve for the first set.

  9. Bautista Agut and Norrie hold servepublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 30 June

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 5-4 Bautista Agut*

Roberto Bautista Agut posts yet another service hold to love to square things up at 4-4 in this third set.

There is no doubt the heat is getting to Cameron Norrie, but you wouldn't be able to tell because he has also held his serve with a lightning ace at 40-15.

  10. Fery keeps himself in third setpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 5-4 Fery

    Pressure? What pressure?

Arthur Fery was serving to stay in the third set against Alexei Popyrin and manages to do so without losing a point and with a lovely drop shot to finish it.

The British wildcard will now need to break if he is to rescue this set.

  11. Bautista Agut and Norrie hold servepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 30 June

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 4-3 Bautista Agut*

Roberto Bautista Agut is just not letting up on Court 18.

It doesn't even look like the blazing heat has touched the Spaniard, who is still hitting at a high intensity and working his counterpart around the court.

Service holds for both players keeps this tense third set on serve.

  12. Popyrin holdspublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 30 June

    Popyrin 4-6 1-6 5-3 Fery*

Alexei Popyrin is edging his way closer to closing the gap in sets.

With his first serve hitting the lines, Arthur Fery struggles to get the ball back in play and 20th seed Popyrin comfortably holds to love.

Fery will now need to serve to stay in this third set.

Well that is one heck of an upset!

Ninth seed Daniil Medvedev is out in the first round following defeat by Benjamin Bonzi.

Medvedev looked completely out of sorts and struggled in that final set to find any answers making error after error.

He shakes hands with Bonzi and the umpire before making his true feelings known by completely battering his racquets and smashing his chair and bag.

  14. Sabalenka throughpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 30 June

    Sabalenka 6-1 7-5 Branstine

Aryna Sabalenka says in her on-court interview that she feels in a "good place" heading into Wimbledon and speaks about how disappointed she was to miss out on the tournament last year because of injury.

She is in a stacked section of the draw, with former champion Marketa Vondrousova and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu among her potential opponents in round three if she makes it through her next contest.

  15. Alcaraz holdspublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 5-5 Fognini*

A fizzing backhand return from Fabio Fognini just drops wide and Carlos Alcaraz holds.

His most solid service game for quite some time.

Aggressive as ever on the forehand side from Alcaraz and he executes superbly in this game - a hold to 15.

  16. Fery holdspublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 4-3 Fery

It feels a lot closer now in this match.

Arthur Fery seems to have settled down after the early onslaught from Australian Alexei Popyrin in this third set.

The wildcard remains a break down but some more impressive play sees him close the gap once again after holding to 30.

  17. Bautista Agut and Norrie hold servepublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 30 June

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 3-2 Bautista Agut*

Another service hold to love for Roberto Bautista Agut - easy does it.

Cameron Norrie's unforced error count is just going up and up at the minute. The Brit just needs to reign things in a little bit to keep himself in this third set.

He collects himself and works Bautista Agut around the court for his entire service game, which he sees out at 40-30.

  18. Fognini holds to lovepublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 4-5 Fognini

Fabio Fognini has so much experience and he certainly won't be fazed by taking on the defending champion on Centre Court.

The Italian quickly moves through his latest service game, helped by a couple of unforced errors from Carlos Alcaraz, and holds to love.

Alcaraz will now serve to keep this first set going.

    Sabalenka 6-1 7-5 Branstine

Aryna Sabalenka had to overcome a much-improved Carson Branstine in the second set, but the world number one from Belarus makes it safely through to round two in straight sets.

BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon

Fabio Fognini is one of the great showmen in the sport - for good and for bad.

He's fiery, unpredictable and you never know what you're going to get from him.

The demonstrative Italian has been shaking his leg out and is walking gingerly between the points.

Not sure yet if it is something serious or a bit of kidology from the veteran.
