  1. Alcaraz holdspublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 4-4 Fognini*

A much more comfortable service game for Carlos Alcaraz.

He'll still be a little frustrated, though, after going up 40-0, only to let Fabio Fognini back in with a volley into the net and another double fault.

But he holds to 30 to keep it on serve.

  2. Fery holdspublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 3-2 Fery

Arthur Fery may not have the height advantage at 5'9, but he has a strong serve and enjoys a serve and volley.

It did not quite get the job done when he was at 40-15 up as Alexei Popyrin flicked one past the Brit, but a big serve sees him hold safely to 30.

  3. Medvedev on brink of first-round exitpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    Bonzi 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 7-6 (7-3) 4-2 Medvedev

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

I’m down at court two, the best court in my opinion, where ninth seed Daniil Medvedev is in a spot of bother against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.

The tall Russian is looking pretty out of sorts at the moment in this blazing heat, chuntering up to his coaches and holding his arms up in exasperation.

These two have already been on court for three hours. A real slog of an opening round match in these conditions.

Bonzi takes the break of serve and will serve for the match.

  4. Bautista Agut and Norrie hold servepublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 2-1 Bautista Agut*

A relatively comfortable service hold for Roberto Bautista Agut.

Cameron Norrie has been utilising his forehand volleys beautifully but a forehand unforced error at 40-30 hands Bautista Agut the game.

The British number three's service game then goes to deuce but, after a bit of a tussle, he is able to serve things out.

  5. Sabalenka breaks and serving for matchpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Sabalenka 6-1 6-5 Branstine

Carson Branstine nets for 15-30 and a winner down the line brings up two break points for Aryna Sabalenka - her first of the second set.

    And she converts the second!

Sabalenka's power on the forehand side proves far too much for Branstine and the number one seed will shortly serve for the match.

There could be an upset brewing on court 12 after French qualifier Valentin Royver took the first set 6-3 against 24th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Czech 30th seed Linda Noskova has brushed aside American opponent Bernarda Pera with relative ease, winning 6-2 6-4 to reach the second round.

  7. Fognini saves two break pointspublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Alcaraz 3-4 Fognini

It's Carlos Alcaraz's turn to rue missed break opportunities.

The defending champion has two of them in Fabio Fognini's latest service game but wallops a forehand return wide with the first at 30-40, then goes long with the next.

Fognini goes on to hold and he's holding his own so far against the world number two.

  8. Popyrin holdspublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 30 June

    Popyrin 4-6 1-6 3-1 Fery*

Alexei Popyrin has finally found his first serve.

Arthur Fery does well to but the 20th seed under some pressure in the game and get it to 4--30 but a big serve down the middle halts any threat of a deuce and he sees the game out for another hold.

  9. Sabalenka holdspublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 30 June

    Sabalenka 6-1 5-5 Branstine*

A comfortable hold of serve for world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Edging towards a tie-break unless either player can find a moment of inspiration on their opponent's serve in the next few minutes.

  10. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Belluccipublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 30 June

    Bellucci 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-4 6-4 Crawford

Mattia Bellucci hits two aces in a row to stamp his authority on his service game but the Italian follows it up with a double fault as the crucial game goes to deuce.

Oliver Crawford hits into the net and Belluci seals the victory as the British wildcard exits the tournament in the first round.

Crawford saved seven break points in total but it wasn't enough.

Bellucci will play Czech Jiri Lehecka in the second round.

  11. Branstine holdspublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Sabalenka 6-1 4-5 Branstine

More cheers from the Court One crowd as Carson Branstine holds to 30 to take a 5-4 lead in the second set.

On game point, a backhand down the line forces the error from Aryna Sabalenka, who - as Tracy Austin said on commentary a short while ago (14:10 BST) - is being tested by her first-round opponent.

Carlos Alcaraz flies when he is playing freely. He's nowhere near his fluid best yet.

The two-time defending champion's service motion, which he has been tweaking this year, looks a little cumbersome by his standards.

His first-serve percentage is below 50% and is why he has faced five break points so far.

A third double fault of the match stalls his progress in the sixth game, but he rediscovers his first serve to get out of trouble.

    BBC One

If you are watching in the more traditional way today - via TV - then now is the time to find the remote and switch to BBC One where coverage of defending champion Carlos Alcaraz against Fabio Fognini continues.

  14. Medvedev must go the distancepublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 30 June

So, Daniil Medvedev will have to go the long route to end up in round two.

The former world number one is trailing again to 64th-ranked Benjamin Bonzi, meaning he will have to turn the match into a five-setter to stand any chance of advancing.

So far in his career, the 2023 and 2024 semi-finalist has played seven Wimbledon matches which have gone the distance - and won three of them.

Medvedev reached the Halle final on grass eight days ago but is a break down again in the fourth.

  15. Fery holdspublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-6 1-6 2-1 Fery

Arthur Fery under pressure again on his own serve in this third set as he goes 15-30 down to Alexei Popyrin.

Better from Fery, though. Some nice play brings him game-point and a big forehand sees him stem the flow and hold serve to keep it at just the one break.

  16. Alcaraz saves three break pointspublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 30 June

    Alcaraz 3-3 Fognini*

Actors Eddie Redmayne and Jason Isaacs are deep in conversation in the Royal Box at the change of ends - there's plenty to talk about after a fascinating start to this match.

Carlos Alcaraz has certainly not had it all his own way and another double fault gives Fabio Fognini two more break points...

Both saved again by Alcaraz with the Spaniard helped by a Fognini slip on the second of them but when he drags a backhand wide, the Italian has another chance.

But a wild forehand from Fognini sees that one come and go, too. Another double fault follows but Alcaraz sorts out his serving issues with two big serves out wide to hold.

  17. 'Good for Sabalenka to have a test'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 30 June

    Sabalenka 6-1 4-4 Branstine*

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

I think it is actually good for Aryna Sabalenka to have a test in this opening round.

She has quite a difficult draw and I think it will help her.

If we look at her hypothetical draw, she could face Elina Svitolina in the fourth round and Madison Keys in the quarter-finals - that is all tough.

  18. Hats, parasols and hand-held fans in fashion at SW19published at 14:09 British Summer Time 30 June

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Spectators here at Wimbledon are using whatever means they can to offset the rising temperatures at SW19.

From the more traditional hats and parasols, there have also been those less-prepared individuals shading themselves with blazers and tops, and even newly-purchased towels.

Usually when we see brollies going up at Wimbledon it only means one thing, but there is no threat of rain here today.

Hand-held fans are proving popular today, too, while others are wafting tickets and anything else that can create some sort of air flow.

Stay safe out there, folks. Even if it does mean missing a game or two of Carlos Alcaraz wizardry...

  19. Sabalenka holdspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 30 June

    Sabalenka 6-1 4-4 Branstine*

Carson Branstine collected a couple of notable scalps during qualifying, defeating recent French Open semi-finalist Lois Boisson and former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu on her way into the main draw.

As Aryna Sabalenka holds, we're at the business end of set two now. Not much room for error.

Queen's runner-up Jiri Lehecka has booked his spot in the second round with a 4-6 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-0) victory over Hugo Dellien.

Eighth seed Holger Rune has just taken the first set against Chile's Nicolas Jarry.

Meanwhile, France's Benjamin Bonzi has just won a third set tie-break against ninth seed Daniil Medvedev to lead 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 7-6 (7-3).
