What a serve to take the hold and what a roar from the court 3 crowd!

Sonay Kartal is definitely the sort of player who needs a few games to settle and she’s done just that here as she levels things up. Very impressive from 5-2 down.

    Kartal 5-5 Ostapenko*

Sonay Kartal hasn't deployed the drop shot too regularly in this opening set but she defends set point incredibly well in that fashion.

And Kartal goes on to get the hold with a serve straight into the body of Jelena Ostapenko.

Jelena Ostapenko not at all happy with that last point to hand Sonay Kartal game point.

She slaps her legs in frustration. This is a crucial game for the Briton and what a turn around it would be if she can take it.

  6. Set point Ostapenkopublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Kartal 4-5 Ostapenko

The first signs of frustration from Jelena Ostapenko as she hits her hand against her thigh after finding the net to hand Sonay Kartal advantage.

But Ostapenko recovers well to take two successive points for another chance to close out the set.

Ah. Kartal goes big and it doesn't pay off with the ball skewing offer the rim of her racquet and ending up wide.

    *Kartal 4-5 Ostapenko

Sonay Kartal has got a foothold in this set but all that hard work might be about to come unstuck as Jelena Ostapenko has two opportunities at set point.

Two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur is in a little bit of trouble over on court 14. She's taken a medical time-out, it's not quite clear what for but as we know it is very hot today.

While the Tunisian is off the court, her opponent Viktoriya Tomova is keeping herself sharp by practising some serves.

  13. Tight in Tarvet’s matchpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Tarvet 3-4 Riedi

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Nothing to separate these two after seven games, we’ve not even had a break point.

British qualifier Oliver Tarvet is certainly a vocal player, regularly giving himself a pick up with shouts of “come on, come on”.

To echo Jess’ observation (11:38) there’s been no complaining about line calls. One shot by Tarvet looked to the crowd that it had landed just in but it wasn’t. Tavert looked frustrated but just cracked on.

  14. Kartal holdspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 30 June

    Kartal 3-5 Ostapenko*

Sonay Kartal enjoyed a run to the third round at Wimbledon last year and she's going to have to find some major improvements in her game to turn this match around.

A wide serve leaves Jelena Ostapenko stretching and only able to return wide - 30-15.

Kartal remains in the opening set running when a Ostapenko hits into the net.

    *Kartal 2-5 Ostapenko

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Winbledon

I have to say I do find the line calling technology to be quite quiet. And that’s before the atmosphere here on Court 3 has really got going.

No line judges at Wimbledon this year is a notable difference and there’s been chat that the court certainly looks emptier.

No grumbles or complaints from the players though.

  16. Ostapenko holdspublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Kartal 2-5 Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapneko is playing some beautiful tennis.

Oliver Crawford is one of many Brits in action on the first day of Wimbledon.

He is up against Italian Mattia Bellucci on Court 16 and saves the first break point of the match to go 3-2 ahead in the opening set after arrowing an aggressive forehand right down the line.

Crawford has made a confident start to proceedings.
