Alfie Hewett goes a set and a break up with a powerful backhand down the line which has his coaching team on their feet just to the right of me.

Much more like it from the Briton.

  2. Hewett beaks early in second setpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 11 July

    Houdet 1-6 1-2 Hewett*

A centre line serve earns Stephane Houdet his first ace of the match and allows him to get the second set under way with a hold.

Alfie Hewett unleashes a fine forehand on to the line to earn a hold of his own.

Houdet was broken three times in the first set but he's fighting with everything he has to avoid an early one in this second.

Hewett eventually breaks at the sixth attempt to take control.

  3. Break point Vekicpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 11 July

    Vekic 0-0 Paolini*

A Jasmine Paolini forehand winner gains her the advantage before a backhand into the net brings us to deuce again.

That Paolini forehand looks like it could be a useful weapon today as she hits another winner, before skewing a shot wide for deuce again.

Donna Vekic now has break point after Paolini can't keep a powerful forehand under control.

    Vekic 0-0 Paolini*

The first rally of the match sees clean striking between both players, before a Donna Vekic backhand goes long.

The Croat then forces deuce as a Jasmine Paolini forehand finds the net.

Both players appear to have settled well with some nice early exchanges.

I wonder why it took Jasmine Paolini so long to enjoy playing on grass, when I watch her she has the prefect game for grass.

This year she is playing incredible tennis and to reach back to back Grand Slam finals would be an incredible story.

Today is such a big occasion, it's such a change for you emotionally and mentally, it's almost whether you can get that in order to allow yourself to physically execute as well as you have to get to this point and I just think with Jasmine [Paolini's] attitude, I think she'll be fine.

I think she'll come out here and just love it, love the occasion, love the opportunity and she certainly won't go down without a fight and without a smile on her face.

It is the most unique walk you do on to a court.

Jasmine Paolini looks like she is strolling down the street, she looks very relaxed.

It is what you have practised for over those years, you have to enjoy it and soak it all in.

It is a special moment when you walk out on this beautiful court.

    Vekic v Paolini

    Ashleigh Barty
Three-time Grand Slam champion on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Jasmine Paolini has had just an outstanding 2024 season. The way she has almost been able to flick a switch and just go up two, three, four gears and find a way to grow her game, develop her game, believe in her game.

That has such a big part in being able to play to come out and play confidently on these courts.

She has got an exciting game style, she's out here with a smile, she interacts with the fans, she is just lovely to watch.

Ashleigh Barty, who won Wimbledon in 2021, was back on Centre Court yesterday in the women's invitational doubles.

The now-retired Australian player said it was "really nice" to reminisce about her triumph here three years ago.

"It changed so much in my life," Barty said.

"It was my dream. It was my childhood dream to win this tournament, to win the Championships.

"I was able to do that. I was fortunate enough to be in a position to play on such a beautiful court on a Saturday afternoon that every athlete wants to play."

Those are the feelings our four semi-finalists will be chasing today.

A problem for Alfie Hewett. The Briton has called for a physio and is recieving treatment to his right shoulder which is already heavily strapped.

In his last service game he continued to have problems with his serve and was repeatedly looking over to his team who are just a few seats to my right.

"Just get through this one Alfie, just get through it," they said to him a few moments ago.

Britain's Alfie Hewett has won 10 wheelchair Grand Slam singles titles but has never been victorious at Wimbledon after losing in the final in 2022 and 2023.

    Could this be the year?

The 26-year-old is currently 4-1 up in the first set against Stephane Houdet in the quarter-finals, which is live now on BBC Two until the women's semi-final between Donna Vekic and Jasmine Paolini gets under way on Centre Court at 13:30 BST.

  18. 'Rybakina serve is phenomenal'published at 13:08 British Summer Time 11 July

    Krejcikova v Rybakina

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

There is way more pressure on Elena Rybakina, but you can tell by the way she talks that she's so laid back and nothing seems to stress her.

Even when she drops serve you expect a bit of panic, but she gives nothing away psychologically.

Her serve is phenomenal, when you have a great technique it makes such a difference - that serve is going to help her enormously today.

You know it's hot when the players are getting some shade at every change of ends.

A quick look in the stands around me and drinks are being gulped at an alarming rate. My laptop is on fire by the way, every letter I type is singeing my fingertips.

On the court Alfie Hewett has won three games on the bounce.

The strength of the Briton is something else. His opponent is keeping things short, playing loads of drop shots, but every time he does so Hewett grits his teeth and pumps his arms to get to the ball and usually hits a superb passing winner.
