  6. 'I'm very happy today'published at 20:33 British Summer Time 3 July

    Sinner 6-1 6-1 6-3 Vukic

World number one Jannik Sinner speaking on Centre Court after beating Aleksandar Vukic: "Honestly I'm very happy today because playing against him is very, very difficult. Huge serve. I tried to be return as many balls as possible and be solid on the baseline. I struggled a bit to close it out. I'm very happy, Centre Court is such a special occasion. Thanks everyone for staying, I know it has been a long day. Every match is difficult so I'm happy to be in the next round.

On the last game and struggling to close it out: "Yes, I enjoyed it because I won the game! If not, I don't know. The match can change very, very quickly. If he breaks me there it can go long distance. I'm happy to win with the roof open, I know at a certain time we close the roof. I was lucky with that shot so thank you for my racquet which somehow made it to put the ball in court. I'm very happy to win in straight sets."

On whether he looks at who he plays next: "Every opponent is very difficult. Third round matches in Grand Slams are always special. We saw there have been so many upsets this tournament so we try to stay focused and raise our level. Today I thought the level was one a good point. I can improve a few things but I am looking forward to it. Let's see what is coming."

    Just. Too. Good.

The seeds may be falling everywhere you look around the grounds at the All England Club, but Jannik Sinner could hardly have made a more ominous start to his bid for a first Wimbledon title.

The shouts of “ole” - here the tennis equivalent of a Mexican wave at a one-sided football match - broke out after the world number one made the breakthrough in the third set to all but confirm a long inevitable outcome.

After saving break point in the final game he waved his racquet calling for more noise from the crowd - and that’s exactly what they give him as he adds the final touches.

Just five games lost here - and 12 in six sets of tennis so far in SW19 this year. A step closer to his goal.
