I'm liking Caty McNally's idea on Iga Swiatek's service games.

She is standing far inside the baseline, trying to attack the second serve and rush her opponent, but the problem is her positioning.

You can see her intent. She wants to hit the return early and deep to the forehand of Swiatek, but that can make you quite vulnerable unless it is a really effective return.

Iga Swiatek doesn't look like she's even in third gear just yet but gets another reasonably comfortable hold.

    Sakkari 3-6 Rybakina

Elena Rybakina, speaking after her win over Maria Sakkari, says she's "really happy" with her performance and agrees with interviewer Lee McKenzie that playing on the show courts at Wimbledon bring out the best in her.

She adds that it is "quite unexpected" to see so many seeds go out early in the women's draw.

A comfortable afternoon's work for Elena Rybakina.

The 2022 champion drops just four games in her 62-minute victory over Maria Sakkari. She really stepped up her level in the second set and will be an imposing opponent for anyone in the women's draw.

Next up on Court One will be Jack Draper against Marin Cilic.

From Centre Court to court two.

Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova continues her title defence on the smaller more intimate court.

When I saw that she was aa break down in the opening set I hotfooted it down to the bottom end of the grounds but by the time I had got here Krejcikova had already recovered to take the opening set.

    Impressive.

Alongside plenty of action in the singles, there are also doubles matches galore at Wimbledon this afternoon with first rounds underway.

In the ladies' doubles, British duo Ella McDonald and Mimi Xu have progressed to the second round with a 6-4 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 win over Linda Noskova and Rebecca Sramkova. It took the pair one hour and 54 minutes to wrap things up on court 10.

They will face 16th seeded American duo Caroline Dolehide and Sofia Kenin in the second round on Friday.

Elsewhere, Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini have cruised through in straight sets against Spain's Cristina Bucsa and Japan's Miyu Kato. The third seeds only needed one hour and seven minutes to claim their 6-3 6-3 victory.

    *Swiatek 3-1 McNally

A tough start for Caty McNally. Can she find a foothold in this opening set?

The 23-year-old gets going with a lovely serve and volley.

McNally continues to build momentum through the game and gets her first hold.

  8. Rybakina serving for matchpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 3 July

    Sakkari 3-6 1-5 Rybakina*

The run of points won by Elena Rybakina ends at 16, and a couple of break points go begging too for the former champion.

But Rybakina gets a huge slice of good fortune with a favourable net cord at deuce and Maria Sakkari has no answer to Rybakina's attack - a double break and Rybakina is serving for a place in round three.

  9. Game and first set - Krejcikovapublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 3 July

    Krejcikova 6-4 0-0 Dolehide*

It is a good start for defending champions Barbora Krejcikova over on court number two.

The seventeenth seed has taken the first set in just over half an hour against American Carolina Dolehide with just the one break separating them.

With so many seeds struggling at Wimbledon this year, she will be hoping for a stress-free passage to the third round today.

  10. Swiatek holdspublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 3 July

    Swiatek 3-0 McNally*

For all the success Iga Swiatek has enjoyed during her career - five Grand Slam titles and Olympic bronze medallist - she has struggled to impose herself on grass.

Swiatek reached her first grass WTA Tour final at the Bad Homburg Open in June to suggest her fortunes might be improving.

The Pole gets another rapid hold to 15 to pull further clear on the scoreboard.

This one might not last too much longer.

Losing her serve in the opening game of the second set seems to have sparked Elena Rybakina, who breaks to love to take control of the second set.

In fact, she's won 14 points in a row to move into a 4-1 lead.

It's not the best start from the American.

Iga Swiatek has two breaks points.

    Swiatek 1-0 McNally*

Caty McNally has a pretty good knowledge of Iga Swiatek's game - the pair played together and won the French Open doubles title as juniors in 2018.

Can she put that knowledge to good use here?

Iga Swiatek is out of the gate quickly.

    .

Fresh from ending Jack Pinnington Jones’ Wimbledon hopes, Flavio Cobolli is back on the court looking to knockout more Brits as he partners Alexander Bublik against Billy Harris and Marcus Willis.

There’s lots of doubles matches on these outside courts today and the walkways between them get packed with people trying to catch a glimpse of the action.

Magnificent defence from Maria Sakkari and she breaks in the opening game of the second set!

On break point, Sakkari returns deep and retrieves another powerful groundstroke to the forehand corner, after which Elena Rybakina finds the net.

  20. Krejcikova continues title defencepublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 3 July

    Krejcikova 3-3 Dolehide*

As is traditional at Wimbledon, the defending women's champion was given the honour of opening play on Centre Court on Tuesday.

However, Barbora Krejcikova was made to work hard for her spot in round two by rising star Alexandra Eala, who won the first set before the Czech 17th seed recovered to win in three.

Her opponent Caroline Dolehide is just outside the top 50 in the world and is through to the second round for the first time in her career, after three consecutive first-round exits.

It's on serve at 3-3 in the first set on court two.
