American Caty McNally has endured a hugely frustrating couple of years with an elbow injury.

After losing in the opening round against Jodie Burrage at Wimbledon in 2023, McNally dipped in and out of the WTA Tour before eventually undergoing surgery in March 2024.

The 23-year-old returned last November and used her protected ranking to gain entry to the Australian Open in January, although she suffered an opening round defeat.

McNally has used that protected ranking once again to secure a place in this year's Wimbledon main-draw and earned revenge over Burrage in round one on Monday.

She has twice featured in the doubles final at the US Open but has never been beyond the third round in the singles at a Grand Slam event.

Iga Swiatek has five Grand Slam titles to her credit but she has not had the best results at Wimbledon during her career - the Pole has only made it to the quarter-final stage once in five previous visits to SW19.

With so many top seeds going out early this week, might this be her chance to put that record right?

Swiatek's second-round opponent is American Caty McNally, whose first-round win over Great Britain's Jodie Burrage was her first ever win in the main draw at Wimbledon.

More from seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, who was asked whether he reflects on his first appearance at Wimbledon in 2005: "I don't pause to reflect. I don't have time. Being on the highest level on professional tennis requires a lot of dedication.

"I don't play as much as I did before but the weeks I don't play, I play at home with my kids. I don't reflect fully on everything I have been through.

"I would like to but I think that will come when I set the racquet aside and then sip Margaritas on the beach with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and just reflect on our rivalry and everything."

  5. 'Wimbledon still the most special tournament in my heart'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 3 July

    Evans 3-6 2-6 0-6 Djokovic

Sixth seed Novak Djokovic speaks after beating GB's Dan Evans: "Thanks for coming out on the Centre Court again. I think everyone knew that it would be a special atmosphere.

"A Brit in Britain is never easy to face. Dan Evans can be causing a lot of trouble if you are not on your game which I think I was from the beginning to be honest. I knew exactly what I needed to do and I executed it perfectly. Sometimes you have these kinds of days where everything goes your way."

On his 99th win at Wimbledon: "It means that I have been playing for quite a long time! I still enjoy and this sport has given me so much.

"Wimbledon still stays the most special tournament in my heart and the one that I always dreamed of winning when I was a kid. Any history made here is very special for me."

  7. Postpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 3 July

    Sakkari 3-4 Rybakina*

Maria Sakkari might not get too many chances on Elena Rybakina's serve, which is one of the stronger elements of her game.

Sakkari has 0-30 but Rybakina wards off any danger to hold serve once more for a 4-2 lead.

In Sakkari's next service game, she finds herself in the same position but digs herself out of that hole in similar fashion.

Rybakina still a break to the good in the first set.

Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has also progressed with a 6-1 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) win over the Netherlands' Botic van de Zandschulp. The 26th seed will face fifth seed Taylor Fritz in the third round.

After knocking out third seed Alexander Zverev on Monday, Arthur Rinderknech is safely through to round three. The Frenchman did need all five sets and almost four hours to beat Chile's Cristian Garin though, eventually taking a 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-3 victory out on court 17.

Elsewhere, Elisabetta Cocciaretto claimed a straight sets win over Katie Volynets on court 16. The Italian continued her brilliant form, after knocking out third seed Jessica Pegula in the first round, to claim a 6-0 6-4 victory.

A sigh of relief for Elena Rybakina as, at 30-30, the former champion has a wide-open court to volley into but it only just clips the back edge of the baseline for a winner.

Maria Sakkari gets it to deuce but a forehand down the line from Rybakina is too good and an unreturnable serve wraps up the game.
