Mirra Andreeva, speaking after her second-round win over Lucia Bronzetti: "It was a really tough match. In the beginning I felt like I was playing great, taking the ball early, playing aggressive, but in the second set she also started to play better and I got a little bit nervous.

"I'm just super happy that I managed to push myself to fight until the end. Thank you guys for supporting me until the end. It gave me a lot of strength."

On what she will work on before next round: "I still have doubles later today, so I'm just going to be having fun on court later.

"You should ask [my coach] what we will work on because I’m sure she is not just going to let me go home, we will stay for a couple more hours to practice on something. It won't be easy, but she pushes me to my limits, so thanks for that, I guess."

Special being out here on a Wimbledon show court? "Yes, I was super nervous to play on this court for the first time.

"I was hoping I could warm up here in the morning but it didn’t work so I was a little bit upset, but I’m super happy that my first time on this amazing court was successful.

"You [the crowd] brought a lot of great atmosphere and without you it wouldn’t be the same."

Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina is the 11th seed at Wimbledon this year but will always be one of the contenders for the title, given the suitability of her game to the grass courts and her recent displays at the tournament.

She made her Wimbledon debut in 2021 and her record at the event reads: fourth round, champion, quarter-final, semi-final.

Rybakina plays Maria Sakkari in round two - the Greek reached two Grand Slam semi-finals in 2021 and has been as high as third in the world rankings.

However, she has slipped outside the top 50 in recent times and had not won a Grand Slam singles match since last year's Wimbledon before getting through to round two earlier this week.

Even if Evans does go down here, this will be one of the memories he cherishes just being back on this stage here at this point of his career.

Former British number one on BBC One

Dan Evans has got to take risks and he has got to look to come forwards but sometimes when you take those risks, the unforced errors start to flow.

It's hard work out there and once Novak Djokovic neutralises the points, Evans has a difficult time making the impact and his slice is just a little bit too predictable.

  11. 'I wouldn't be surprised if Djokovic won Wimbledon'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 3 July

    Ryan Harrison
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

I think this is Djokovic's best chance this week [of reaching 25 Grand Slams].

Alcaraz and Sinner are not in top form after their epic French Open final. Djok is firmly in the top three favourites, and those other guys are not showing they are unplayable.

Do I think he will win this major? No, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

  12. Darderi holdspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 3 July

    *Fery 4-6 3-6 2-5 Darderi

A rollercoaster of emotions already today for Arthur Fery in such a short space of time.

The Briton went a break up just over 20 minutes ago but has since lost three games in a row and is on the brink of a second-round exit.

Make that four games in a row.

Alongside plenty of action in the singles, there are also doubles matches galore at Wimbledon, with first rounds under way.

British duo Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash cruised through to the second round with a 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 straight-set win over Vasil Kirkov and Bart Stevens. It only took the fifth seeds one hour and 43 minutes to wrap things up on court 16.

However, fellow Brit Jamie Murray and American Rajeev Ram were unable to get past Francisco Cabral and Lucas Miedler, losing 7-6 (12-10) 6-3 to the unseeded pairing.

Elsewhere, American duo Christian Harrison and Evan King were knocked out in straight sets on court six. The ninth seeds were unable to cling on in the second set tie-break, eventually falling to a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) defeat.

Fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos did manage to claim their second-round spot though, with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 victory over unseeded pairing Yunchaokete Bu and Ray Ho.

  14. 'Relentless from Djokovic'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 3 July

    Just relentless from Novak Djokovic.

He has only lost five points on serve in the whole match and only one unforced error.

Such a clean set of tennis emphasises the challenge not only for Dan Evans but any player coming up against Djokovic.

    Ah.

Winning successive points doesn't matter if you're going to throw in a double fault.

Arthur Fery hands the break over to Luciano Darderi.
