Well that was decent from Emma Raducanu, wasn't it?

The British number two told us yesterday she did not feel "too far behind" in match sharpness despite not playing for almost two months.

So far, she's been right. Her serve has been particularly sharp and the difference maker.

Seven aces, including four as she held for 5-3, and winning 80% of her points on first serve have done the damage.

    Impressive set of tennis.

We weren't sure what to expect from either player since they haven't competed much.

Emma Raducanu has done a better job in terms of dealing with the situation and the pressure.

She's served brilliantly, that was key.

Should Great Britain capitalise on Emma Raducanu's superb start and beat Germany, they will face defending champions Canada in the quarter-finals.

Canada sealed a 2-0 win over Italy in last year's final in Seville, with Leylah Fernandez and Marina Stakusic, who was ranked 258th at the time, claiming singles victories.

The win earned Canada a record $2.4m (£2.1m) in prize money, one year after the nation won its first Davis Cup.

    Sir! Take a bow!

The fella draped in a Union Jack scarf does exactly that after an impressively-smooth catch from a framed return by Niemeier.

He's spent some time on the boundary of a cricket field over the years, clearly.

    Niemeier 3-4 Raducanu*

Now it's Emma Raducanu who finds herself in trouble after lofting two forehands wide to open up a 0-30 lead for Jule Niemeier.

She's got the whole court to aim for in the next point, but she puts too much power on it and the ball fizzes long. Three break back chances for Niemeir.

We all know the Brits love the Costa del Sol. And why (if we're sticking to stereotypes).

A healthy number of the sun seekers, the pint drinkers, the culture vultures, whatever, are here at the Palacios de Deportes.

Tennis tourists or expats, the Union Jacks give the game away. Especially the bucket hats. It's like Spike Island.

Several hundred Brits have got tickets and, so far, are beating the Germans in the supportive chorus singing.

Great return. There is just a sense that Emma Raducanu is starting to find her timing on the return and backing herself.

The numbers have been brilliant on serve for both players.

But the German can't deal with Raducanu's hefty service return on the next point and it's advantage GB.
