It was tight all the way through. Both players are playing well here but Kartal is that little bit firmer in the crucial moments. Some big, heavy forehands are being delivered.
That will sting for Vedder.

Some wonderful clay court points - Kartal is able to drive into space so well on this surface.
It's vicious play from her. There is so much fizz on her forehands. She just keeps herself in front although she hasn't shaken Vedder off yet.
Some clear advice coming from Anne Keothavong - "Don't sit on the cross-courts too long, take it down the line before Vedder does."

There is a lot of orange in the arena, but the mostly red shirted British fans - some wearing Union Flag coloured bucket hats - are using their vocal cords to impressive effect.
The GB band chose The Great Escape as Sonay Kartal erased the early break deficit.

Eva Vedder is having to be patient here.
She isn't able to attack every shot Sonay Kartal is playing, but she is doing a really good job of just settling back into the rallies.

That's brilliant from Sonay Kartal - the best shot of the match!
You could just see how deep Eva Vedder was on her backhand side. There was no way she was getting that. Even if she was in a good position, it was just too good.

Vedder is trying to add in that extra height but Kartal is taking it on the rise and managing to nip it away.
You can really see how both players are able to neutralise each other. Both can attack in the forehand so it will come down to the execution.
That was an important game for Vedder after a few have gone against her.

The Briton sends Eva Vedder scampering across the baseline with a variety of forehands but nudges one just long before Vedder utilises the serve and volley to good effect to take the hold.

Kartal is dictating play with the forehand once again, some very smart play from her with the drop shot as well.
She likes to set up the early forehand on her serves to get the job done nice and quickly.
There are intense conversations going on on both benches. It's a case of who get can on top with that forehand and start bossing the match.
