    *Collins 1-1 Burrage

A solid start by Jodie Burrage out on court eight as she battles to a hold of serve under pressure from Danielle Collins.

At the start of what is certain to be a tough test, that is exactly the opening game she needed.

  2. Alcaraz closes in on victorypublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 26 May

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-4 5-1 Zeppieri*

World number two Carlos Alcaraz is closing in on victory against Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

The 22-year-old is now just one game away from extending his win-loss record on clay court this year to 16-1.

A straight-set win would represent a pleasing start for the reigning champion, who could keep his time on court below two hours at this rate.

  3. 'Burrage likes the big stage'published at 13:23 British Summer Time 26 May

    Collins v Burrage

    Daniel Kiernan
Former British tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Jodie Burrage has an opportunity to take a big cheque home from Roland Garros, so it almost feels like she's playing with house money today. Her family are around, her boyfriend lives in France and she spends a lot of time here.

She likes the big stage, she is on the court at the minute smiling. I'm sure she will be swinging from the hip and I think it is a real opportunity for her.

But Danielle Collins also likes the big stage. If you look at her results she does like playing the big hitters, but she maybe doesn't like playing in these - for want of a better phrase - smaller matches.

The story of this match will be whether or not Burrage can find Collins' forehand.

  4. Burrage set for main draw debutpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 26 May

British number seven Jodie Burrage will shortly make her main draw debut at Roland Garros against American Danielle Collins.

Former world number seven Collins has posted some impressive results on clay court this year, reaching the quarter-finals in Charleston, the round of 16 at the Italian Open and the semi-finals in Strasbourg earlier this month.

So Burrage, who is currently ranked 165th in the world, will be looking to cause a significant first-round upset on court eight in the pair's first head-to-head meeting.

  5. 'Seeing Nadal yesterday inspired me a lot'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 26 May

Here's what Iga Swiatek had to say after her first-round win against Rebecca Sramkova: "For sure It wasn't an easy match because she played with a lot of freedom and she was going for her shots, especially her forehands down the line were pretty amazing.

"I had to stay proactive and try to create and use my weapons, and that's what I did. I am happy of my performance and it was a pretty solid match so I'm happy."

On having more time in Paris to prepare for this year's French Open: "It was the first time I had a situation like that, but I liked it because I love being here. When we were thinking of where to go this seemed like the best idea because I love Paris and knew I was going to have the best courts on the world to practice on so it was an easy decision."

On crying Rafael Nadal's retirement ceremony: "I tried to keep it together. I knew the cameras were on Carlos [Alcaraz] behind me so I needed to be brave, but seeing Rafa crying makes me more emotional. It's nice he shows emotions that way, it's nice he shows he's human.

"I really liked what Roland Garros did, especially the footprint. I think it's going to stay here forever and Rafa deserves it. It's great the tennis world could show their appreciation and tell Rafa we are really thankful for everything did. He is a huge inspiration. Even when he's not playing, even him being here yesterday inspired me a lot. Thanks Rafa."

A short while ago we heard from Emma Raducanu's upcoming opponent Iga Swiatek, after the reigning champion progressed to the second round with a straight-set win over Rebecca Sramkova on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Don't go anywhere, because we have three more British players still to come today.

Jodie Burrage follows Emma Raducanu on court eight against American Danielle Collins, while Jacob Fearnley will be facing Stan Wawrinka shortly on court 14.

Katie Boulter's match against Carole Monnet follows Taylor Fritz against Daniel Altmaier on Court Simonne-Mathieu.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are among the top seeds in action too.

Emma Raducanu speaking to TNT Sports after her first-round victory: "I don't feel great, I would have felt worse if I had lost. I was struggling form the start.

"She's [Wang Xinyu] a tough opponent, she can take the racquet out of your hands. I was just flat but I'm happy I found a way. I haven't been here in three years but think it was a culmination of some things. I'm happy to get through.

"When you're not feeling energetic, I knew I had to start well to give myself the best chance to keep fighting."

On positives she can take: "I can take positives in the fact that a lot of top champions in the first round have saved match points and really struggled but gave themselves another opportunity for the second and third rounds. I think that is a quality not easy to teach. Character and heart really came through today and I am really proud of that."

On facing Iga Swiatek in the next round: "I'm very happy to give myself another chance. I felt the noise around the match [against Swiatek] before we'd played the first round. I'm looking forward to going out there. There's not much pressure on me going out there, I think my game is in a great place so it's a great challenge."

Let's hear what Emma Raducanu had to say following her hard-fought first-round victory, shall we?

  10. 'Raducanu can go into Swiatek match with a lot of freedom'published at 13:07 British Summer Time 26 May

    Raducanu 7-5 4-6 6-3 Wang

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It's impressive to come through a match like this when everybody is a bit nervy in the first round and you just want to get that win under your belt.

She's had to really scrap and fight for it. There were some physical problems but she managed to loosen up at the end of the match. She played the better tennis and deserved to win, that's for sure.

She can go into her match against Iga Swiatek with a lot of freedom. Wins like this, where you have to grit through a three-setter over nearly three hours, are really tough.

I'm really looking forward to seeing her against Swiatek...

    Raducanu 7-5 4-6 6-3 Wang

Now it's all about recovery for Emma Raducanu.

We saw her call for the doctor midway through the second set and undergo tests as she took a three-minute medical timeout.

Hopefully a full day of rest before she faces Iga Swiatek will be enough time to allow her to give her best in that match.

"Not great" she jokes, when asked how she's feeling when she catches up with Laura Robson on TNT Sports.

We'll bring you her full quotes shortly.

What a brilliant strike that was into the forehand! Both feet were off the ground as Emma Raducanu hit that one.

The yell is back - we haven't seen that since the start of the match, when she was letting out some almighty screams after taking some brilliant points. Raducanu is very much in the driving seat.
