You really couldn't call that until the very final point, but the unforced error count was down to 13 for Wang compared to over 20 in the first set. That is a marked contrast.

I genuinely thought it would go to 5-5 and Raducanu would have a very good chance of closing out the set, but Wang just managed to produce some quality tennis at the back-end of that last game.

I would still favour Raducanu to come through this one though, I just feel that she's very gritty and she's better at fighting through three-setters.

In or out? Wang reckoned in. The umpire thought out. And his decision is final.

It was very difficult to tell who was right from where I’m sat.

The French Open, remember, is the outlier when it comes to resisting the temptations of using modern technology.

Wang certainly used the debate to fuel herself, resuming very pumped up and feeling she had an injustice to overturn.

    It worked.

    *Sramkova 3-6 2-1 Swiatek

After winning four straight games to finish off the opening set, it looked like Iga Swiatek had found her feet and was on her way to a comfortable first round victory.

But not so fast, says Rebecca Sramkova who breaks Swiatek's serve and takes a 2-1 lead.

Wang Xinyu has shown what she is made of when she has played with freedom.

When her back has been up against the wall, she has been able to impose her game down at the other end but there have been far too many moments where she has overthought everything.

That's when those errors start to come out.

  5. Game and second set - Wangpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 26 May

    Raducanu 7-5 4-6 0-0 Wang*

Angered by that perceived injustice, Wang channels her frustration into a forehand winner for an actual set point.

And she will not be denied.

Despite Emma Raducanu's valiant fightback from 5-1 down, the Briton is taken to a decider in the French Open first round.

  6. Postpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 4-5 Wang

Raducanu is unable to get over the line at the third time of asking but sets up a fourth opportunity with a well-taken backhand into the corner.

A couple of misses later, though, and Wang has set point...

Oh wait, hold on! The umpire is down off his chair and calls that Raducanu shot in. Wang disputes, but she won't win this argument. We'll replay the deuce point. Drama.

Solid defence from Emma Raducanu, who knows she can rely on Wang Xinyu missing at the moment if she can remain in the points.

Wang strikes long to hand over two game points, but recovers well and lands a forehand to force deuce.

  8. 'Raducanu has got her mojo back'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 4-5 Wang

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Emma Raducanu has got her mojo back, that's for sure!

She is just showing her gritty side once again, which is why she is the former US Open champion. You don't get that title without a strength of character.

Even though I felt like she was depleted in energy, when she was down 5-1, she is finding a way to create doubt down at the other end.

Wang will be kicking herself because she almost had this set in the bag. She just hasn't been able to put it all together and play with freedom or consistency.

  9. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 4-5 Wang

Can Emma Raducanu make that good work count to restore parity at 5-5?

Imagine the frustration levels Wang Xinyu will feel if she does. Wang chops a volley into the net after taking the opening point, and then sends a return the same way.

  10. Alcaraz breaks earlypublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 26 May

It wasn't a straightforward start for Carlos Alcaraz - he had to save two break points and battle for five minutes to hold serve in the first game of the match.

He has now, however, managed to go an early break up over the world number 310 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

  11. 'It's getting interesting'published at 11:58 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 4-5 Wang

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It feels very much like Wang is trying to cut down the unforced errors but, in doing so, she isn't going close to the lines and she is putting a little less pace on the ball. That is only giving Raducanu more time.

It's starting to get a little bit interesting, isn't it? It looks like Raducanu has gone through that little bit of a wall, where she had zero energy, and she is now looking more interested in this set.

  12. Raducanu breaks back againpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 4-5 Wang

    Shotttttttttt!

Emma Raducanu, evidently still feeling well below her best, swipes a forehand down the line for a couple of break points.

    Another crushing forehand settles it!

What an incredible momentum swing we are seeing here. Every credit to Raducanu, who has somehow forced her way back into this set.

  13. Game and first set - Swiatekpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 26 May

    Sramkova 3-6 Swiatek*

The floodgates have opened. After a slow start, Iga Swiatek has won four games on the bounce to wrap up the first set in 44 minutes.

The three-time defending champion gives her team a fist pump and an angry yell of "come on!"

    Raducanu 7-5 3-5 Wang*

Another break here and Emma Raducanu really is back in business.

I'm not quite sure what has happened to Wang Xinyu but the hold she had on this set feels as though it has loosened.

A poor miss from Wang and Raducanu is 0-30 up. Not many saw this coming at 5-1 in the set...

  15. Raducanu holds servepublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 26 May

    Raducanu 7-5 3-5 Wang*

Emma Raducanu has enough to come out on top in a lengthy rally.

More positive signs as she follows a backhand winner with another on the forehand for 40-0. Is that a spring back in her step? A solid serve completes a much-needed straightforward hold.

The British voices in the Roland Garros crowd have been subdued.

Now it is the contingent of Chinese fans who are more vocal.

Wang is regularly looking over to her team and supporters next to the media seats as she tries to get over the line.

I couldn’t tell you what the message from them is. Mandarin not a strong point.

  17. 'Raducanu looks a bit low on energy'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 2-5 Wang

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Wang has got herself into this position just by cutting down some of those unforced errors and getting a few more balls back into play. She is also gaining from Raducanu's unforced errors, who looks a bit low on energy.

It is a bit nip and tuck, but that's not to say I haven't seen Raducanu in these situations before and seen her come right back in it during the final set.

  18. Raducanu breakspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Raducanu 7-5 2-5 Wang

Well then! Emma Raducanu has one of the two breaks back as she prevents Wang Xinyu serving out the set at the first opportunity.

Can she hang in the set long enough to weather this difficult patch she's going through? It's still a long way back.

  19. Break point Raducanupublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 26 May

    Raducanu 7-5 1-5 Wang*

It's a strange atmosphere at the moment on court eight, with Emma Raducanu clearly beginning to struggle to keep with the pace now and a deciding set imminent.

Raducanu's loss of energy is meaning the Briton is taking big swings and still winning a fair few points, however, and she battles her way to a break point.

  20. Swiatek breakspublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 26 May

    Sramkova 3-4 Swiatek*

There we go. Iga Swiatek edges in front after breaking Rebecca Sramkova at the third time of asking.

The world number 42 had done well in those first seven games, but it feels like the three-time defending champion could storm through this tie now.
