There was no doubt for Felix Auger-Aliassime when reaching his first quarter-finals at the US Open back in 2021 - he probably thought it was going to continue, and then he ran into some trouble physically.

But now, there's nothing sweeter or better the second time round.

It's not to say he'll repeat this at the Australian Open in January, but it helps for him to reset and realise he's had to push himself and persevere and deal with those setbacks.

It's been an impressive display, it's synchronising here thus far for him at the US Open.

Ekaterina Alexandrova earns herself three break points, which do at least extend the match beyond the hour mark.

More from Felix Auger-Aliassime after beating Andrey Rublev...

    On his meditation routine:

"It's very important for me, it's something I've added in the last couple of years. In those tight moments you want to come on the court in the right state of mind.

"There's a lot of excitement in our world today, but on the court we need to be calm-headed, especially in the pressure moments. For me it's a routine I have before matches and it helps to calm me down."

    On his upcoming wedding:

"Maybe if I make the final on Sunday, I will have to postpone the suit fitting [on Monday]!"

  5. Auger-Aliassime 'soaking up every moment'published at 19:12 British Summer Time

    Auger-Aliassime 7-5 6-3 6-4 Rublev

Felix Auger-Aliassime speaking after beating Andrey Rublev:

"Thank you all for coming. Today is my first time playing on Arthur Ashe in a few years. It feels even better than the first time. The first time at 21, I was on my way up.

"To have a few setbacks, injuries, struggle with confidence, to come back the second time to the quarter-finals, it feels much better and more deserved. I'm soaking up every moment here."

On overcoming a 1-7 win-loss record against Rublev:

"I've played good in the past against Andrey, but I kept my cool and remained calm and poised to finish the match, that was the key.

"I've had many tough matches with Andrey in the past, it was always a battle, sometimes I would be up and serving for the match, but he would come back."

    Incredible.

That was some of the best tennis from Felix Auger-Aliassime against a quality opponent - to win it in straight sets as well.

It's not like he was given the match - he went out and he won that match.

    *Alexandrova 3-6 1-2 Swiatek

Iga Swiatek looks dialled in, pumping her fist as she wrong-foots Ekaterina Alexandrova.
