  1. 'I'm going to keep going' - Kyrgios holds servepublished at 09:41 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 0-1 Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios isn't giving much away right now, and he's not talking to himself quite as much, but that opening hold of serve gives him something to build on.

"I'm just going to keep going until I can't anymore," he tells his team.

It's what the fans want at least, but whether it's advisable is another matter...

  2. Basavareddy holds to lovepublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Djokovic 4-6 3-3 Basavareddy

More impressive stuff from 19-year-old Nishesh Basavareddy as he holds to love.

    We go again.

  3. Shevchenko fumbles opportunity to take second setpublished at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Shevchenko 1-6 5-6 Alcaraz

Alexander Shevchenko has just missed out on the opportunity to take the second set against Carlos Alcaraz.

After being a break down, the unseeded player was in prime position as he served for the second set but he was unable to capitalise on his advantage.

Alcaraz then went on to hold his serve, so they are verging on going into a tie-break here.

Hmmm, Kyrgios has not had enough yet after all.

Kyrgios leans his racquet against his bench at the end of the set, then hunches forward and stares into space as he contemplates his options.

After a minute or so, he gets up and digs into his bag for some tape.

He's soldiering on - for now.

    Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 0-0 Kyrgios*

Nick Kyrgios is sticking around for the start of the third set.

Can he produce an unlikely comeback? You wouldn't rule him out entirely, but it's a long, long way back and Jacob Fearnley has a huge opportunity here.

  6. Game and second set - Fearnleypublished at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time

    Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 0-0 Kyrgios*

Jacob Fearnley, on his debut appearance at an overseas Grand Slam, moves two sets up against a clearly unfit Nick Kyrgios.

A place in the second round is his to lose now!

  7. Djokovic holds to 15published at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time

    Djokovic 4-6 3-2 Basavareddy*

Novak Djokovic looks to up the tempo with a more straightforward hold.

Just the one blemish as Nishesh Basavareddy forces him long but it's a much-needed hold to 15.

  8. Set points Fearnleypublished at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 5-3 Kyrgios

The signs are not good from Nick Kyrgios. You really wouldn't be surprised if he does call this early.

Jacob Fearnley reaches three set points.

  9. Basavareddy saves break points to holdpublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Djokovic 4-6 2-2 Basavareddy

    Well played, Nishesh Basavareddy.

He digs out a forehand winner down the line and a big serve to get to game point.

Then Novak Djokovic nudges his forehand into the net and there's the hold! A massive hold for the young American.

Nick Kyrgios has another chat with the physio at the changeover.

I suspect it could be all over when, not if, Jacob Fearnley wins this set...

  11. Kyrgios holds servepublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 5-3 Kyrgios

Fearnley has hit 29 winners to 10 unforced errors, compared to just 18 winners and 20 unforced errors by Kyrgios.

The returning Kyrgios has not shown the sort of levels which will be required to turn this around, but he is at least doing his job on serve now.

The Australian holds to love to force Fearnley to serve out the set.

    Djokovic 4-6 2-1 Basavareddy*

Novak Djokovic earns himself that break point then makes an uncharacteristic unforced error on the forehand to take us to deuce.

That's his 15th unforced error of the match. That's a pretty high tally for him.

Nishesh Basavareddy pegs him back but Djokovic works himself a second opportunity.

  13. Fearnley holds servepublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time

    Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 5-2 Kyrgios*

Terrific stuff from the solid Jacob Fearnley, who completes a love hold with a backhand winner to move a game away from a two-set lead.

"Come on, Nick! Head up!" screams one fella behind the media seats.

It's the abs not the head.

Kyrgios lifted his shirt up for the doctor to rub on what I imagine was painkilling gel at the changeover.

Not sure that is going to do the trick. Not sure Kyrgios is going to last the match.

  15. Kyrgios saves break points to holdpublished at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 4-2 Kyrgios

Jacob Fearnley backs himself to come out on top in most long points on Nick Kyrgios' serve, and a backhand winner gives the Briton two more break points.

To the delight of the crowd, Kyrgios does not accept defeat there and refocuses, battling back with four successive points to hold. A bit of fight - that's what the Australian's fans want to see!

  16. Djokovic break pointpublished at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    Djokovic 4-6 2-1 Basavareddy*

    Here he comes.

Nishesh Basavareddy sends one long and that's a break point for Novak Djokovic. Andy Murray is on his feet along with much of the rest of Rod Laver.

  17. Postpublished at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time

Fearnley has been so comfortable on serve that you can't imagine Kyrgios can recover this break.

The 23-year-old from Edinburgh has lost just FIVE service points - that's 10% of his total.

  18. Postpublished at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time

    Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 4-1 Kyrgios*

Nick Kyrgios calls for the trainer at the change of ends but looks happy to continue for now.

It's a long way back from here.

  19. 'Djokovic might have to rely on his tactics'published at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time

    Djokovic 4-6 2-1 Basavareddy*

    Mark Woodforde
17-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Basavareddy seems to be tracking Djokovic from the baseline. He is being very competitive in rally mode as well.

Djokovic might have to rely on his tactics and thoughtfulness to win three sets in this match.

  20. Fearnley holds servepublished at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time

    Fearnley 7-6 (7-3) 4-1 Kyrgios*

A moment of tension for Jacob Fearnley as a double fault brings Nick Kyrgios to 30-30 and the crowd sense an opportunity.

But, just as he has done throughout, Fearnley silences the noise and restores his three-game lead.
