Novak Djokovic's first double fault of the evening gives Lorenzo Musetti a 40-15 lead and two attempts to break early in the second set.

Musetti can't take the first but he refuses to let the second pass him by.

Another mesmerising rally ends with a perfectly placed backhand into the corner.

    That was special.

The highs and lows of top-level tennis. Lorenzo Musetti breaks in game nine, but then gets broken himself, a set-losing break, minutes later.

A drop shot from downtown from Musetti, with the scoreboard at 15-40 and with one break point already saved, doesn't have the legs and the first set is Djokovic's.

The Serb was sprinting to chase it down incase it got over the net and only had to take one more step to get to his chair. No histrionics, no showboating, no drama at the end of the set.

He knows there are a lot of people here cheering on Musetti and there is no reason to get the crowd agitated and lively.

The best way to quieten the fans is by winning against their man, and that's what Djokovic is doing.

There was a lovely moment during Jasmine Paolini’s training session as, much to the Italian’s excitement and delight, American singer Pink came down to Aorangi Park.

The pair had a chat for a few minutes and posed for some pictures before it was back to work and back practising her serve. Paolini, that is, not Pink.

There’s no doubt if Paolini wins the women’s singles final tomorrow, and becomes the first Italian, male or female, to win Wimbledon, then that would certainly get the party started.

The set is still alive and what a way to do it as Lorenzo Musetti gets the break back with an absolutely beautiful forehand that finds the line.

That had come after a powerful cross-courter from Djokovic, which was right in my eye line, just went out by a small margin.

There are also plenty of people glancing upwards at the sky. The clouds are grey and miserable. Hopefully this can stay as on outside match with the roof staying open.

    No rain yet. All good.

    Musetti 4-5 Djokovic*

Novak Djokovic reminds us just why he is a 24-time Grand Slam champion as he forces Lorenzo Musetti one way and then the other across the baseline before a cross-court backhand puts him 30-0 up.

Ah. A double fault from Musetti hands Djokovic three set points.

A loud roar from the Wimbledon fans and Lorenzo Musetti punches the air at winning his first game his four. There's no doubt the Italian is hugely popular, but it could also be those fans who have paid an awful lot of money for Centre Court tickets wanting to be rewarded with a thrilling match.

A lady not too far from me pulls a scarf out of her bag in the colours of the Italian flag and waves it around. Think we'll be seeing that a lot this afternoon.

Centre Court is always happy to get behind an underdog and Lorenzo Musetti is getting the full treatment as he slots a backhand winner down the line.

Novak Djokovic is really leaning on his volley game today and it comes up good at the net to level at 15-15.

Musetti slices into the net to hand Djokovic a 40-15 lead.

The Italian isn't giving up on this set and fights back to deuce.

  17. Musetti holdspublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 12 July

    Musetti 3-5 Djokovic*

Can you believe that Novak Djokovic underwent knee surgery just over five weeks ago? Aside from the knee support he's wearing, there's hardly any other evidence as he slides to return at the baseline before sprinting diagonally across the court to hit a winner at the net.

Lorenzo Musetti isn't letting that previous break to play on his mind and goes on to hold.

Djokovic will serve for the set.

This striking of the ball from Novak Djokovic is so clean.

Lorenzo Musetti is so far back on the baseline that he has to go for so much on the passing shot.

Djokovic is coming forward and doing the right thing.

  20. Djokovic closing in on first setpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 12 July

    *Musetti 2-5 Djokovic

Lorenzo Musetti hasn't been able to cause any problems on the Novak Djokovic serve but he needs that to change here if he's to keep the pressure on in this first set.

Djokovic is just too slick with it, though.

The Serb gets another hold and is one game away from wrapping up the set.
