    Sabalenka found the febrile nature of the New York crowd difficult to handle in the 2023 final against Coco Gauff, I seem to remember.

    Then again, she did beat Jessie Pegula here last year.

    Fascinating to see which way this one goes for the Belarusian...

    Sabalenka had a wry smile up at her coaching box when she missed that overhead smash to hand Anisimova a break point as if to say 'this isn't over'.

    And it isn't. The defending champion has gone from serving for the championship to serving to force a tie-break.

    Anisimova could not have played that any better and she is strolling to the other end - she looks so in control.

    You have to feel for Sabalenka - she cannot believe what has just happened. She should have put that smash shot away easily.

    Anisimova is in for a fight.
