    More breaking news…

Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from the Championships.

As suspected from her quick exit at Aorangi Park about half an hour ago (see 12:30 entry), the shoulder injury is too much.

Erika Andreeva, who lost to Britain’s Sonay Kartal in the final round of qualifying, comes in as a lucky loser.

  4. Murray practice updatepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 1 July

Murray has spent half an hour warming up, hitting from the baseline and practising serves. There was little running.

Now things are being ramped up.

A practice set against Edmund, another former British number one who has been hampered by injuries in recent years, will be more strenuous.

Murray had a cyst removed from his back nine days ago. Yesterday he said he isn’t feeling pain. But he still didn’t have 100% feeling in his right leg.

The cyst had been putting pressure on a nerve which had caused him to lose power and strength in the leg.

An audacious lob attempt from Heather Watson sails beyond the baseline. She then tries a drop shot and it’s centimetres away from being brilliant as it drops on Watson’s side of the court.

I heard Watson saying to her team: “Every one of them drops on my side, every time.”

Emma Raducanu has played some fantastic tennis over the last few weeks which has given her a huge amount of confidence.

That win against Jessica Pegula in Eastbourne was huge, the first time in her young career that she has beaten a top 10 player.

It wasn't just the win against Pegula, she beat Sloane Stephens as well, a former US Open champion.

She should be feeling good about her tennis, a few weeks before she was a semi-finalist in Nottingham.

The preparation has been as good as it can be and she has a real opportunity today.

    Court One (from 13:00)

  8. Ruud goes two sets uppublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 1 July

    Ruud 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 0-0 Bolt*

After taking the first set on a tie-break, Norway's eighth seed Casper Ruud has made much shorter work of the second set against world number 234 Alex Bolt.

Grigor Dimitrov, leading by two sets to love, was a break down to Dusan Lajovic in the third set but has just broken back and he's serving to make it 4-4 in the third.

However, not such good news for fans of Frances Tiafoe - the 29th seed is two sets down in his match with Matteo Arnaldi on court 15.

One spectator, draped in a Union Jack flag, is particularly loving the action and often is up off his seat shouting “come on Heather”.

  10. 'Going to be a good tournament for Boulter'published at 12:35 British Summer Time 1 July

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC Two

For Katie Boulter, our British number one, I feel like she doesn't quite get the time that she deserves being seeded here at a Grand Slam, at your home Grand Slam for the very first time.

She did a very good job of retaining her title in Nottingham. She loves the grass, she loves the support and she can get better and better.

She's been playing some great tennis and it's going to be a good tournament for her, I believe.

One of the main quests for people with a Wimbledon ground pass is planning out your day.

A quick look at the Order of Play and off you go, mapping out a route to search for your favourite players on one of the 16 outdoor courts.

There were big queues to get into court 15 to catch a glimpse of Frances Tiafoe or Matteo Arnaldi, while there are people standing on their tiptoes trying to peer over the fence of court 14 to watch Nicolas Jarry up against Denis Shapovalov.

  13. Worry for Sabalenkapublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 1 July

Bektas v Sabalenka (second match on Court One)

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Aryna Sabalenka is another player who has injury concerns - and it didn’t look good for the third seed as she left a short practice session.

The two-time Australian Open champion has a shoulder problem which she says is “rare”, leaving her struggling to serve.

Due to play second on Court One (from about 15:30 BST), she’s just left the practice courts in a hurry and walked past holding her right arm in a sling position.

She only spent about 15 minutes hitting.

The facial expressions of Sabalenka and her team did not look good.

After a slow start, it was a respectable effort from the defending champion.

  17. 19th seed Jarry in troublepublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Jarry 1-6 5-7 0-0 Shapovalov

The men's 19th seed Nicolas Jarry of Chile is in danger of a first-round exit, having dropped the first two sets to Denis Shapovalov of Canada.

Shapovalov is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist and a player that the seeds would have wanted to avoid when the draw was made late last week.

  18. Wimbledon finalist Berrettini next up on court 12published at 12:22 British Summer Time 1 July

Maria Sakkari's win on court 12 means the fans on that court will be soon able to watch a former Wimbledon runner-up in the next match.

Matteo Berrettini, 28, is one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the men's draw as he continues his return from injury.

The Italian is a former finalist at Wimbledon, having lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic in 2021, and possesses a thumping forehand and powerful serve.

Berrettini ended his 2023 season early after suffering an ankle injury at the US Open - a problem that kept him out of action for six months and dropped him down the rankings.

However, four of his eight career titles have come on grass, including two at Queen's Club. He reached the final of the recent Stuttgart Open in the build-up to Wimbledon, losing to new British number one Jack Draper.

  19. The first winners...published at 12:19 British Summer Time 1 July

    We have a winner!

World number 70 Varvara Gracheva is the first player through to the second round this year. She has beaten Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, ranked 11 places higher in the world rankings, in straight sets.

Ninth seed Maria Sakkari quickly followed Gracheva into round two, wrapping up a 6-3 6-1 win over McCartney Kessler.

Spent a lot of time over the years on Murray Watch down at the practice courts.

This is likely to be one of the final times.

The narrow, paved terrace looking over the court is jam-packed with reporters, snappers and Wimbledon staff trying to grab a glimpse of the two-time champion.
