  1. Broom holding his ownpublished at 13:33 1 July

    *Wawrinka 2-2 Broom

It's the early stages in this one but both players have held their serves through the first few service games.

Broom, from St Albans, forced Wawrinka to deuce in the Swiss' opening service game but to no avail.

That said, his serving is looking sharp and the fans are enjoying this one on court two.

  2. More special to be defending champion, says Alcarazpublished at 13:31 1 July

    Alcaraz v Lajal (13:30 BST)

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz says it feels "more special" to return to Wimbledon as he prepares to open play on Centre Court.

Spain's Alcaraz, now 21, beat seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in last year's final, despite it being only his fourth grass-court tournament. Tradition dictates the reigning men's champion starts his defence in the first match on Centre Court.

Therefore, third seed Alcaraz meets Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal at 13:30 BST on the iconic show court.

"I always say it is great to be back here at Wimbledon. It is more special to be the defending champion," said Alcaraz, who arrives on the back of winning the third major of his career at the French Open.

"Great memories last year, great run. I'm excited to start the tournament and hopefully have the same result as last year."

    Alcaraz v Lajal

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz gets the action under way on Centre Court as he takes on Estonia's Mark Lajal.

After an inconsistent start to 2024, Alcaraz returned to form in some style to win the French Open.

However, his Wimbledon preparation hasn't been ideal after he lost to Britain's Jack Draper in the second round at Queen's.

Meanwhile, world number 269 Lajal is into the main draw at SW19 for the first time after beating James Duckworth in the final qualifying round.

Andy Murray warms up at WimbledonImage source, PA Media

Encouraging for Andy Murray as he wins 6-3 in that practice set against Kyle Edmund.

Murray is serving and returning fine, but still doesn’t look he can push off that right leg fully.

It has been an improvement from the weekend.

Still not sure it will be enough to convince him he is ready to step up against Tomas Machac on Tuesday.

But only a fool would try to second guess Andy Murray. Time will tell.

Broom, 26, reached the final of the Nottingham Open on the ATP Challenger Tour but this might be one of his toughest matches yet.

The Swiss meanwhile has never got past the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon losing twice in 2014 and 2015.

Again Medvedev allows 40-0 to become 40-30 on his own serve but he gets the job done.

A lot of cheek puffing and heavy sighing from Andy Murray.

Also a lot of despondent shouts of ‘No’.

Daniil Medvedev was a semi-finalist at the All England Club last year but arrives at this year's tournament after very little preparation.

He was hampered by a hip injury during clay court season and also suffered with foot blisters at Roland Garros, and went out in the second round at Halle - his only matches on grass this year.

The Russian is still the clear favourite in the opening match on Court One as he faces USA's Aleksandar Kovacevic.

It is the 25-year-old's first appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon.

And that is that for Heather Watson at Wimbledon in 2024 and she battled hard against Greet Minnen but it just wasn’t enough for the Briton.

Watson, a fan favourite, showed glimpses of her ability but the ability of Minnen was just too much.

“She’ll be gutted,” says her team in front of me.
