Summary

  1. Dimitrov two sets uppublished at 12:14 1 July

    Dimitrov 6-3 6-4 0-0 Lajovic*

Fairly routine so far for Grigor Dimitrov, who is now one set away from beating Dusan Lajovic in the first round on court two.

The highlight of the game that clinched the second set was a superb backhand that scorched the Wimbledon grass as it flew down the line for a winner.

  3. 'Gauff is my pick for the title'published at 12:13 1 July

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

I think Coco Gauff has a great chance this year, I'm such a big fan of her game and her personality. I think she is a great communicator, you always want to listen to what she has to say and she has such a beautiful game.

She is aggressive, she's got that mindset where she wants to get to the net and finish points off. She has got a sliced backhand, a very powerful serve, she still has vulnerabilities in her game where the double faults lurk a bit too close to the surface and sometimes the forehand can get a little bit messy.

She is almost like my pick for the title. With everything that is going on in the women's game with the injury problems, I just feel like maybe this is Coco Gauff's time.

You never know what Coco Gauff is going to turn up but she's such a great tactician and athlete.

That’s a bitter pill to swallow for Heather Watson having forced her way back into the set while playing some great stuff.

She showed glimpses of what she’s capable of in that first set. The crowd love her and will be on her side the whole way.

  5. 'Vondrousova could do very well at Wimbledon'published at 12:10 1 July

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

It felt like [defending champion] Marketa Vondrousova has just been under the radar and a little bit forgotten about but what we do know about her is she is excited to be back here.

She also had a nasty fall in one of the lead-up events and hurt her hip so she didn't practice for a couple of days but she has been out on the practice courts and said she is feeling great.

She is a little bit nervous trying to defend that title as you would expect but as we know from last year when she beat Ons Jabeur and broke quite a few hearts, I think so many people wanted to see Jabeur be the first Arabic woman to win here, but she has got an awkward game, she is a leftie, uncomfortable to play against so let's see how she goes.

I think she could still do very well here.

  6. Tiafoe a set down against Arnaldipublished at 12:09 1 July

    Arnaldi 7-6 (7-5) 0-1 Tiafoe

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Over on court 15, Frances Tiafoe has just lost his first set against Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi.

The 29th seed suffered a nasty fall which forced him to retire early in his first-round match at Queen’s a couple of weeks ago.

But he looks like he’s moving pretty well now, wrapping up an easyish hold to love - much to the delight of some American fans sat near me.

  7. Game and first set - Minnenpublished at 12:07 1 July

    Minnen 7-5 Watson

It was an up and down opening set from Heather Watson, who was 4-1 down and then 5-4 up and serving for the set, but it has gone against the Briton with Greet Minnen of Belgium taking the set.

“She’s not capitalising. She’s too lazy to move her feet,” says Heather Watson‘s mum sat just to the right of me.

Watson is now serving to force a tie-break in this opening set.

  10. Watson serving to stay in the setpublished at 12:02 1 July

    Minnen 6-5 Watson*

Heather Watson was serving for the first set, but after a poor service game when she was broken to love, she now is serving to stay in the set and force a tie-break against Belgium's Greet Minnen.

  11. 'Everyone wants Murray to have the big send-off he deserves'published at 12:00 1 July

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC Two

It's a huge ask for Andy Murray to get out there and feel fit, to compete in a five-set match tomorrow. It's going to be a huge challenge but he is such a big character.

This tournament means so much to him, to his friends, family and the public.

Everyone wants him to have that goodbye, that final feeling, the big send-off that he so much wants and deserves and hopefully gets on Centre court.

If it doesn't happen on the singles court, hopefully, it can happen on the doubles court with his brother Jamie. That would be something special, they've never played here together.

His team are doing everything they can to support him and he deserves to do things on his terms.

  12. 'Swiatek vulnerable as the top seed'published at 11:58 1 July

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

Iga Swiatek has never been beyond the quarter-finals here at Wimbledon and she has always said it is not her favourite surface but she wants to learn on it.

She pulled out of the warm-up event so she is going to try and use some of the early rounds to make her way through the championships.

The ball that she hits sometimes sits up on the grass and it gives other opponents a little bit more time on it. It's definitely not her favourite [surface] but let's see.

I think she's a little bit more vulnerable as the top seed.

  13. Watson serving for the opening setpublished at 11:57 1 July

    Minnen 4-5 Watson*

That's four games in a row for Britain's Heather Watson, who will now be serving for the opening set having been 4-1 down against Greet Minnen.

Watson has dropped down to 199th in the world rankings and needed a wildcard to get into the competition, but is now ahead against the world number 80.

  14. Ruud in front, Tiafoe loses first setpublished at 11:57 1 July

Casper Ruud has flown through a first-set tie-break against Alex Bolt on court three, the Norwegian eighth seed taking it 7-2.

Meanwhile, on court 15, Frances Tiafoe - the 29th seed - has lost his opening-set tie-break to Italy's Matteo Arnaldi, who is ranked 35 in the world. Work to do for the American.

Joe: I'm very concerned about Novak's injury. If it were anything other than the knee (except the hip) I'd be confident he could overcome it and win more majors. But having watched the Federer documentary, it's very hard to come back from knee injuries. I fear we may have seen the last of his best. Which is a crying shame.

  18. Sakkari takes first setpublished at 11:46 1 July

Maria Sakkari, the number nine seed from Greece, has taken the first set against world number 119 McCartney Kessler of the United States.

Sakkari hasn't got the best record at SW19 - she has failed to make it past round three in seven previous attempts - but has made a positive start here.

  19. 'Shoulder injury a nightmare for Sabalenka'published at 11:45 1 July

Bektas v Sabalenka (second match on Court One)

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

Aryna Sabalenka's shoulder injury is a nightmare. She is in the prime of her career, she defended her title in Australia which was really impressive in January.

She really wants and is hungry for more titles. She would love to win here and her game is very well suited to the grass.

She has a big serve, big power game, she has been in the semi-finals twice before but she has this nasty, unusual injury in the muscle in the shoulder. She can practice, she can lift weights but when she comes to serve it is a problem. She says only three or four players have ever had that injury.

She has only played one and a half matches, she had to retire in her warm-up event. The serve is a big nucleus of her game. When the serve is firing, it's a bit like Serena Williams, it sets up her big game behind it.

If she can't serve, that takes away one of her major strengths.

It's such a shame. She's very much loved, she's a big character and a big personality and I think a lot of people felt she could go really far and get better than that semi-final place she has had twice before.

  20. Postpublished at 11:44 1 July

    Minnen 4-3 Watson*

Great spirit from Heather Watson as she has twice found herself a break down, but twice fought back to get it back on serve, after Greet Minnen sends a flashing forehand into the net.
