I think Raducanu should focus on one particular shot.

Her shots are just dropping a bit short at times and there is just a lack of rotation.

Getting some confidence back in her groundstrokes at the moment will change things very rapidly.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, speaking on court after her three-set win over Diane Parry:

"It feels like a dream, I know I haven't played here many times but I'm so grateful that you guys came and cheered and I hope that the match was really fun for everyone to watch.

"I'm really excited to be here and it's funny, Wimbledon was the first tournament I watched after pregnancy and my daughter's turning one tomorrow so, I'm really glad to still be here."

On today's match: "I wish I could say I enjoyed it all the time but my heart was racing a lot but you know, I feel like these are the type of matches that you kind of have to play just in order to ease into the tournament and I don't know, she's a great player so I'm really glad that, even though I played a little up and down, I'm just glad I was able to... hopefully not play a third set tie-breaker.

On staying positive in tough moments: "It's not the most natural thing for me to do, I am a little bit of a downer on myself but I'm really trying to stay positive. There's a really nice man over here that was just telling me 'come on Naomi' and I was like 'yeah, I got this, I got this' so thank you!"

The fire in Raducanu's belly is clearly evident.

A visceral roar greets every point she wins.

A tight grip of the fist accompanies it.

It’s all over for another Brit at Wimbledon as Arthur Fery cannot turn his promising start into a win over Daniel Altmaier.

Fery had been receiving treatment at every change of ends in the fifth set so was obviously having issues.

    A shame for the Brit.

    *Zarazua 5-5 Raducanu

Emma Raducanu is really struggling with her net game as she hits it into the base of net once again. 15-15.

Renata Zarazua puts her backhand long and Raducanu pumps her fist, lets out another scream after taking a 40-15 lead.

    Raducanu goes on to hold.

    It's getting nervy.

As the day goes on, the Order of Play boards around Wimbledon are updated with the results from each match.

Here’s a sight Karolina Pliskova won’t want to see.

The 2021 finalist is out after falling to a 4-6 6-4 7-5 defeat by Russian Diana Shnaider.

It feels like Zarazua has done her homework on Raducanu.

She has thrown in some astounding drop shots.

You wouldn't think of her as a grass court player but she has been impressive on the grass.

  9. Game, set and match - Altmaierpublished at 17:16 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 1-6 6-3 6-1 Fery

From two sets to one down, Daniel Altmaier comes through to beat Britain's Arthur Fery and claim his first win at Wimbledon.

It was an impressive finish from the German, who had come roaring back and played with real aggression.

Both players appeared to struggle with injuries at different points during the match but, after a battling effort, it was Fery who faded in the end.

    Zarazua 5-4 Raducanu*

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Raducanu spoke in her pre-tournament news conference about enjoying being the "complete underdog" and having the chance to "take a scalp".

That was, of course, when she thought she was playing against 22nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Now it is roles reversed. Is that why Raducanu looks tense?

Raducanu is particularly struggling on her forehand, errors flowing from that side like drips of water from a leaky tap.

The crowd know she needs encouragement and are doing their best to provide it.

  11. 'Would like to see a change-up from Raducanu'published at 17:13 1 July

    Zarazua 5-4 Raducanu*

    Johanna Konta
Former British number one on BBC TV

Emma is so good at the directional change but against Renata, she’s capable of using that and I would like to see a change-up from Raducanu.

She has good depth on the ball I would like to see Emma make her think.

  12. Zarazua holdspublished at 17:13 1 July

    Zarazua 5-4 Raducanu*

Renata Zarazua opens up a 30-0 advantage and then moves 40-15 in front with a forehand, which is out of reach for Emma Raducanu.

Raducanu can't loft the ball over the net as she races to meet a drop shot and it's game to Zarazua.

From losing three games in a row to winning three in a row, this has been some turnaround from Zarazua in the opening set.

The Mexican is not here to just make up the numbers.

  14. Broady wins second setpublished at 17:11 1 July

*Van De Zandschulp 6-2 4-6 Broady

Liam Broady has hit back after a disappointing first set to take the second against Netherlands' Botic Van De Zandschulp.

The pair exchanged breaks midway through the set before the Briton claimed the decisive break to go 5-4 ahead before serving it out.

All square heading to the third.

  15. Game, set and match - Keyspublished at 17:10 1 July

    Keys 6-4 7-6 (7-4) Trevisan

Madison Keys, who wasn't scheduled to be on Court One until Aryna Sabalenka pulled out injured earlier, is safely tough to round two.

The 12th seed defeats the world number 89 from Italy, Martina Trevisan, in straight sets.

Next on Court One is the men's world number one and reigning Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner.

    Osaka 6-1 1-6 6-4 Parry

    Alan Jewell
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

A sad way for it to end as three double faults in the final game from Diane Parry hand victory to Naomi Osaka.

The four-time Grand Slam champion can, though, be very satisfied to edge a tight battle on her first Wimbledon appearance since 2019.

Plenty of shouts from the crowd when that fact is brought up in her interview.

Osaka also mentions that tomorrow is the first birthday of her daughter, Shai. A lovely way to mark it.

Emma Raducanu saves the first break point but can't repeat that feat with the second.

    This is proving very interesting!

  18. Break points for Zarazuapublished at 17:07 1 July

    *Zarazua 3-4 Raducanu

Emma Raducanu falls 30-0 behind with an overcooked forehand at the net.

A fine response to get on the board as Raducanu sinks one down the line but she puts the next one into the net and trails 40-15, handing two break points to Zarazua.

  19. Altmaier closing inpublished at 17:07 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 1-6 6-3 4-0 Fery*

It was the aggression of Daniel Altmaier that saw him get back into this match after going two sets to one down.

But now he is in control, we're seeing some lovely deft touches as well with a cross-court drop shot bringing him the double break.

Britain's Arthur Fery shows some excellent balance to avoid making contact with the net after sprinting in to put away a volley but it is not enough to prevent another Altmaier hold.

  20. Seeds Baez and Mannarino eliminatedpublished at 17:04 1 July

A couple of seeds in the men's draw have made early exits. Argentina's Sebastian Baez, seeded 18th, lost in less than two hours, going down 6-2 6-3 6-4 to American Brandon Nakashima.

France's Adrian Mannarino, the 22nd seed, is also out. He was beaten in four sets by compatriot Gael Monfils, who won 6-4 3-6 7-5 6-4.
