Summary

  1. Sinner breakspublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 5-2 Hanfmann*

Jannik Sinner turns up the heat just a fraction and is suddenly a game away from taking the first set.

He charges in to reach another drop shot from Yannick Hanfmann and send it cross-court for a winner to break.

The 22-year-old Italian then holds with ease to leave his German opponent serving to stay in the set.

  2. Raducanu holdspublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 2-5 Raducanu

Emma Raducanu falls 30-15 behind but Renata Zarazua can't pull further clear as she strikes into the net. 30-30.

Shouts of "come on Emma" offer a boost to the home hope and it works.

Raducanu takes the game and has round two in her sights.

Raducanu's quality of ball striking has got much more weight attached to it and rushes Zarazua.

  4. Van de Zandschulp double break up against Broadypublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Van de Zandschulp 6-2 4-6 6-3 3-0 Broady

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Contrasting emotions for Liam Broady and Botic van de Zandschulp on court 12.

Broady lets out a huge roar of frustration, while the Dutchman belts out “let’s go” after finding himself a double break up in the fourth set.

It’s a long way back for Broady now.

  5. Broady broken againpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Van de Zandschulp 6-2 4-6 6-3 3-0 Broady

Broady is running everywhere but just can't keep up with Van de Zandschulp.

Our commentator John Lloyd just said that was an effective match point and he might not be far off.

  6. Raducanu breakspublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 1 July

    Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 2-4 Raducanu*

Emma Raducanu is so close to taking a 40-15 lead and a chance at two break points but Renata Zarazua's shot hits the net cord and just dribbles over - 30-30.

Raducanu will have her chance to break, though, as she powers one in at the baseline.

And she takes it! Zarazua goes long with her forehand.

    That. Is. Huge.

  7. Britain's Miyazaki set up against Korpatschpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Korpatsch 2-6 Miyazaki

It's not been an amazing day for the British players so far, but some good news to bring you on that front...

Great Britain's Lily Miyazaki has gone a set up against Germany's Tamara Korpatsch, winning 6-2.

The 26-year-old lived in Japan for the first six years of her life before settling in London aged 10 where she trained at the Sutton Tennis Academy.

I'm sure they'll all be watching on iPlayer right now.

  8. Still on serve on Court Onepublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 3-2 Hanfmann*

A more for Jannik Sinner on serve this time around as the ball balloons off the frame of Yannick Hanfmann's racquet to give the world number one a hold to 15.

Hanfmann is still keeping Sinner at bay on his own serve, though, with a tactical approach that seems to be 'if in doubt, go for the drop shot'.

  9. 'Raducanu facing an uncomfortable shot'published at 18:03 British Summer Time 1 July

The drop shot doesn't have to be so good, it just has to be short.

A couple of Zarazua's drop shots have had height on them so you can see it coming but it doesn't really help you out so Raducanu is getting up to it on time but it is still an uncomfortable shot.

It's the low bounce and it's the fact that Centre Court in particular hasn't been played on very much.

  10. Raducanu holdspublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 2-3 Raducanu

Who is going to blink first in this second set?

At the moment, it doesn't look like either is ready to take a backwards step on serve.

We do have a brief break in play with Raducanu leading 40-30 when a bird lands on court.

I'm not a keen Twitcher so can't offer any further details on what kind of bird, but I'm sure the legend that is David Attenborough - watching on from the Royal Box - has already identified it!

Anyway, Raducanu lays down an ace to see out the game.

  11. Broady 'running out of ideas'published at 18:01 British Summer Time 1 July

    Van de Zandschulp 6-2 4-6 6-3 2-0 Broady*

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

He's running out of ideas, Liam Broady.

He obviously can't afford to go down a double break, so a big game here.

  12. 'Unusual drop shots from Zarazua'published at 17:57 British Summer Time 1 July

    Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 2-2 Raducanu*

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Those drop shots are unusual, the way Zarazua hits them. It's almost like the ball comes off the racquet, very very high and you think 'that's not a good one' and then when it lands on the court, it absolutely dies. She has won so many points off it.

It is just thrown in there as a wildcard out of nowhere and Raducanu has been caught out a few times.

They must be incredibly irritating to run down.

  13. Zarazua holdspublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 1 July

    Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 2-2 Raducanu*

Renata Zarazua was so close to breaking in the previous game but, having been unable to utilise two break points, she dusts herself off and comes back fighting.

The Mexican holds to draw level, dropping just one point in the process.

  14. Broady goes break down in fourth setpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 1 July

Unfortunately, more bad news to bring you, Liam Broady fans.

He's just lost his opening service game and it's quite an uphill task facing him now.

Groans from the crowd leave for a rather deflated atmosphere on court 12.

We're yet to have a British winner today...

  15. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 1-2 Raducanu

The celebrities have turned out in good numbers for the opening day of Wimbledon. David Beckham and Sir David Attenborough are both in the Royal Box.

They are witnessing a treat on Centre Court and they aren't short of a treat for their sweet tooth either.

The camera pans to former England captain Beckham, who is alongside his mum, dipping his hand into a bucket of sweets.

    Not bad for some!

  16. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 2-1 Hanfmann*

Yannick Hanfmann only won five games across three sets the only other time these two met, at the US Open last year.

The German has started well here, though, using his drop shot to good effect. He takes Jannik Sinner to deuce on each of the top seed's service games so far.

But on both occasions, Sinner comes through to hold and it's still on serve.

  17. 'Emma needs to stick to her rhythm'published at 17:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 1-2 Raducanu

    Johanna Konta
Former British number one on BBC TV

I think Emma is not doing a lot wrong. Ultimately I think it will be enough to get through Renata. She just needs to stick to her rhythm.

  18. Watch: Raducanu clinches first setpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 1-2 Raducanu

Emma Raducanu is halfway to a first-round victory - here's how the former US Open champion secured the first set on a tie-break.

  19. Raducanu holdspublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 1-2 Raducanu

Emma Raducanu shows, grit, character and spirit to get to deuce.

A cross court forehand is well out of reach for Renata Zarazua - advantage Raducanu.

And the Brit goes on to hold.

  20. 'Easier in many ways to be a lucky loser'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 1 July

    Zarazua 6-7 (0-7) 1-1 Raducanu*

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

As a lucky loser, you just have a free swing at it. You're unprepared in a good way.

You don't have enough time to get nervous about playing on Centre Court whereas Raducanu will have been thinking about it since the schedule came out on Saturday.

In many ways, it's a lot easier.
