Large and in charge comes to mind [to describe Cerundolo]. He is dictating this match so far.

It's funny because he doesn't often seem like he's really going for it. He's just got very easy power, the ball really flies off the racquet. It's timed well, it's well coordinated, he's getting the body and the legs into it.

He's just fizzing it around this court today. He's a very good player but he didn't show anything like this against Canda's Denis Shapovalov earlier in the week.

  3. Cerundolo holdspublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 13 September

    *Draper 3-5 Cerundolo

Jack Draper may have been considered the favourite before this match but Francisco Cerundolo has silenced the Manchester crowd and seriously impressed with his level.

He fends off a bit of a surge from the Brit to take another solid hold.

Draper will have to serve to stay in the opening set.

Draper gets himself through another service game.

It's important that he just stays competitive - even though he's down a break, he's doing that.

    Draper 3-4 Cerundolo*

It looks like a simple service game for Jack Draper but Francisco Cerundolo pegs the Brit back with some patient play.

Draper produces a good first serve to take a tricky hold and stay in the mix in this opening set.

    Nick Lester
    Former British tennis player

Draper is getting no free points off his serve at the moment, which is a complete contrast to what it was in New York.

He was about 50%+ first serves unreturned at the US Open, but today so far, very infrequent. Cerundolo has done a great job of just putting balls into play, getting the point started.

    *Draper 2-4 Cerundolo

Excellent movement from Francisco Cerundolo and, barring one mistake on the forehand, it's a straightforward hold to 15.

The danger with this shortened format, if [Cerundolo] continues [with] this sort of level for half an hour or so and gets himself up a set, then the finish line can come into view pretty quickly.

There's very little wiggle room in this format of Davis Cup.

    Jack Draper needed that.

A couple of aces and Francisco Cerundolo skews his forehand wide as Draper holds to love. The Brit stays in touch.

This has been quite incredible these first 22 minutes.

How long can this level last?

    Draper 1-2 Cerundolo*

The rallies so far are absolutely ridiculous. Powerful shots from the baseline with both players having to lock in physically and mentally.

Francisco Cerundolo can only find the net at the end of a lengthy exchange and take us to deuce.

Can Jack Draper break back straight away?

A really physical couple of games.

I'm at Jack Draper's end of the court, he's working hard already.

I think it's fair to say, as impressive as he's been to this stage of his career, the physical side of the game hasn't been the strongest part.

He's definitely improved, it's definitely a work in progress. Early signs are this could be a physical test for both of these players.

    Draper 1-2 Cerundolo*

Well, after a gruelling game where Jack Draper missed break point and Francisco Cerundolo had to fight hard to hold his serve, he has raced out to an early break in this second set.

He breaks to love as Draper sends his forehand wide.

That's silenced the Manchester crowd somewhat.

    *Draper 1-1 Cerundolo

Jack Draper does eventually work himself a break point opportunity but Francisco Cerundolo is on hand with another lovely shot to save it.

The Argentine eventually goes on to take the hold with 16 minutes on the clock. A physical game for both players and that's an important one for Cerundolo to get on the board at this early stage.

[That is] really impressive ball speed and striking.

You can hear the 'ooh's and 'aah's from the crowd.

These guys are really going for it from the get go.

    What. A. Point.

It looks like Jack Draper is going to work himself a break point opportunity as his shots continue to kiss the line but Francisco Cerundolo has had enough and places a glorious passing forehand winner down the line.

    Lovely stuff.

  18. 'A good match up'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 13 September

    Draper 1-0 Cerundolo*

    Colin Fleming
    Former British tennis player

[It's been a] reasonably quick turnaround for Jack Draper, although some pretty quick matches you have to say in New York. It should be a good match up for him, obviously being left handed and directing a lot of play to the weaker wing of Cerundolo, but it's not an overly quick court, the balls are quite heavy.

It was quite apparent in that first game, it looked like Cerundolo had a bit of time in the rallies, we saw a couple of forehand winners. I think Draper is going to have to be prepared to really sort of push the needle in terms of how big he's prepared to hit the ball today.

Cameras have just shown Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister in the crowd watching his compatriots this afternoon.

The Argentine World Cup winner will be pleased to have seen his nation get off to a good start in the opening match but Francisco Cerundolo is just struggling to get going here in his opening service game as Jack Draper nails a forehand winner to take us to deuce.

    Good start.
