Oh, incredible. Unbelievable stickability from Dan Evans. How does he come out on top in that exchange? Andy Murray-esque defence from way behind the baseline.

    Evans 2-1 Etcheverry*

How on earth does Dan Evans stay in that point? He's on the back foot from the off, with Tomas Martin Etcheverry rattling off a series of overhead smashes at the net.

But the Briton keeps hitting the ball back over and it's Etcheverry who takes his eyes off the ball and has a bit of a howler, missing an easy tap over the net.

The Manchester crowd liked that one, and they like it even more as Evans holds.

A nice serve-volley there, that's a really positive game from Etcheverry who says to Dan Evans 'right back at you'.

    *Evans 1-1 Etcheverry

A big, big first serve from Tomas Martin Etcheverry - 137mph to be precise. There's not much Dan Evans can do about that.

A lovely serve-volley combo gives the Argentine the love hold. A confident start.

    Evans 1-0 Etcheverry*

    Philip Studd

That's an important hold from Evans, particularly from a precarious 0-30, having failed to find that first serve, but he built the point very nicely there to hold on and settle the nerves.

    Evans 1-0 Etcheverry*

A couple of shaky first serves from Dan Evans helps Tomas Martin Etcheverry land the first blow.

But it's not long until Evans, racing towards the net, pulls himself back level at 30-30.

The pair engage in a long rally full of slices, and it's the Briton who eventually comes out on top as Etcheverry completely mis-hits a forehand.

Moments before the teams came out, you could hear the Argentina lads - in the warm-up area next to the media centre - having a singalong to get themselves pumped up.

The visitors emerged first before Britain walked out to a tune from some local indie band.

    Oasis? Never heard of them.

After a solid win over Finland on Wednesday, Britain are hoping to Roll With It today.

Jack Draper is, of course, the man of the moment.

So all the chat from fans on the way to Manchester Arena - and texts from friends heading here later - was about whether the US Open semi-finalist would play.

There were a few whispers that he might be rested again, but never felt like a realistic option.

When he appeared on the Arena's court about 11am to practise, you could confidently predict he would be on the teamsheet.

GB have got some extra firepower back in their ranks for today's tie, with Jack Draper returning to the team.

The British number one cheered on the team from the sidelines on Wednesday, opting to rest after his impressive run to the semi-finals of the US Open where he fell to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Draper is up second up today - taking on world number 31 Francisco Cerundolo.

  12. Smith wants 'football atmosphere' from British fanspublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 13 September

When you tell someone you live in Manchester, the first question is usually: "City or United?"

Football is in the fabric of this city. And the home fans arriving at the Arena today have been urged by British captain Leon Smith to bring their terrace voices.

On Wednesday, when Britain hoped to win the doubles against Finland for a 3-0 clean sweep, there was a muted atmosphere among the 6,000-plus crowd.

Afterwards, Smith asked for more noise in today's tie against Argentina and Sunday's against Canada.

"I urge those coming on Friday and Sunday to empty the tank," said British captain Leon Smith.

"You see it at the French Open, it's like a football crowd. It makes a difference at the end of a long day.

"It was really quiet out there and we have to make the most of that home advantage."

If you've wandered around Manchester in recent weeks you can't fail to have noticed the Davis Cup was coming to town.

The event has been splashed across LED advertising boards dotted everywhere, like this one in the hipster Northern Quarter, and the Metrolink tram network.

A crowd of about 6,400 watched the opening tie against Finland, leaving a sparse feeling which could be expected in a midweek tie when the kids are back at school.

Today, that figure could swell to over 9,000.

On Sunday, it is hoped a 15,000-capacity arena will be packed. A sell-out would be a new record for a British Davis Cup tie, beating the 13,000 figure which watch last year's thrilling finale against France.
