When Berrettini reflects on that second set, when he got the break of serve, a couple of unforced errors cost him and across the board it just felt the momentum was building for Sinner.

It's a long, long way back for Matteo Berrettini now.

He trundles back to his chair looking utterly dejected.

It's game of fine margins. Two sets in, one break of serve apiece but Jannik Sinner leads by two sets to love.

Matteo Berrettini will look back on the moment he gifted Sinner the chance to break back immediately after he'd earned the advantage and rue it.

It's looking good for the top-ranked player in the world.

  4. Set point - Sinnerpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 3 July

    Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 6-6 (6-4) Berrettini*

More brilliance from Jannik Sinner as he nails a forehand past the advancing Matteo Berrettini.

Set point for the world number one.

The crowd are trying their best to get behind Matteo Berrettini.

Someone is waving an Italian flag animatedly at him, but I think that's giving mixed signals considering who he is playing.

    Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 6-6 (4-2) Berrettini*

Matteo Berrettini is given a lifeline as Jannik Sinner puts too much on a backhand.

The Australian Open champion is still a mini-break up, though.

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 6-6 (3-1) Berrettini

It's all Jannik Sinner early in this tie-break.

Matteo Berrettini can't get a big serve out wide back and very relieved when an eye-catching cross-court passing shot is shown to have flashed just wide.

    Brilliant from Jannik Sinner.

A crisp backhand down the line for a winner. Mini-break for the top seed.

It feels like the majority of the support is for Matteo Berrettini going into this tie-break.

There's cheers and whistles as he steps up to serve first.

  10. Tie-break incoming...published at 20:44 British Summer Time 3 July

No messing about from Jannik Sinner.

He holds to 15 and we've got another tie-break.

Does anyone know how long church bells ring for?

There’s a church close by court two and it’s been ringing its bells the whole time I’ve been here.

The players might be enjoying it, who knows.

  12. 'Berrettini has responded really well'published at 20:43 British Summer Time 3 July

    *Sinner 6-6 (7-3) 5-6 Berrettini

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

Berrettini needs to get on top in the first two or three strikes in the rally.

But he has responded extremely well, winning three or four points in a row and keeping his nose in front in this set.

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 5-6 Berrettini

Excellent touch at the net from Matteo Berrettini to secure the hold.

He had looked in a bit of trouble when Jannik Sinner went up 0-30 but the more experienced of these two Italians kept his cool and rattled off four straight points.

One more Sinner hold and it's tie-break time again.

It’s Gael Monfils with the momentum on court two currently as he currently holds a set and a break lead.

The light is getting dimmer out here and it’s hard to imagine much more play going on tonight.

    Extremely comfortable for Jannick Sinner.

He holds to love and that tie-break that had come into view again a couple of games ago is almost staring us right in the face at this point.

It will be if Matteo Berrettini can hold, anyway...

  16. 'You can see what that hold meant to Berrettini'published at 20:36 British Summer Time 3 July

    *Sinner 6-6 (7-3) 4-5 Berrettini

It was a massive game for Berrettini, under immense pressure.

You can see by that reaction what that service hold meant to him.

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 4-5 Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini survives as Jannik Sinner sends a cross-court forehand whistling into the tram lines.

As soon as a rally of any length develops, Sinner looks to have his compatriot outmatched but this time he overdoes it with forehand.

Advantage Berrettini and he hammers a volley down the middle to clinch a very important hold.

  18. Break point for Sinnerpublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 3 July

    Sinner 7-6 (7-3) 4-4 Berrettini*

Ace! Just when Matteo Berrettini needed it.

Jannik Sinner opens the door for another break at 30-40 but Berrettini slams it in his face.

But not for long, a backhand slice from the 2021 finalist is long and it's another break point for Sinner...

A wild Jannik Sinner return fizzes into the first row of the crowd.

The lucky fan that caught it can't throw it back before the next point starts, so instead she and a friend take a couple of selfies with the ball held up between them.

She doesn't try and sneak it into her bag, either, chucking it to the ball kid at the next pause in play.
