Right back at you, says Emma Navarro.

The serve, which at times can be Coco Gauff's biggest weapon, just wasn't quite clicking there.

    What a response!

    Emma Navarro hits back immediately.

She was unable to break Coco Gauff once in her straight set loss at the Australian Open in January.

That will do her confidence the world of good.

    *Navarro 2-3 Gauff

Coco Gauff is really moving through the gears now.

Gauff steps up the level of aggression in her play as she stands right on top of the net and defends twice, but the third shot has just too much on it and goes long.

That's a lovely cross-court forehand from Navarro to hit a winner off a Gauff drop shot.

    She earns two break points.

"Come on Emma, you've got this," yells a fan as the 19th seed steps up to serve.

Unfortunately for him, she doesn't. Coco Gauff has too much power for her compatriot to cope with.

Oh no. Emma Navarro is broken to love.

Navarro had started so positively in those first two service games.

It's going to be a serious challenge for her to hit back.

  8. Opening set stays on servepublished at 20:23 British Summer Time 7 July

    *Navarro 2-2 Gauff

We've already seen Coco Gauff pick up a hold to love. Can she repeat that feat?

No. After taking a 15-0 lead, Gauff gets sloppy with a double fault. 15-15.

A lengthy battle of forehands eventually falls in Gauff's favour and she serves out the game.

Emma Navarro's backhand has always been her better side.

She has improved her service return position and she is more willing to hit the ball early and be attacking.

Emma Navarro holds her racquet up in the air to apologise.

She goes for the drop shot but it comes up short.

Luckily for her, it trickles off the net cord to Coco Gauff's side - drawing a big 'ooooh' out of crowd.

Emma Navarro attempts a drop shot, it's almost short but hits the net cord flush and the ball loses all pace. Coco Gauff stretches for the ball but can't get any purchase on it.

Navarro holds without too much trouble.

  12. Gauff holds to lovepublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 7 July

    *Navarro 1-1 Gauff

Coco Gauff won 6-3 6-1 against Emma Navarro when they met at the Australian Open in January.

How much confidence will she carry into this match from that result?

If this first service game is anything to go by then it seems the answer is plenty.

    Gauff holds to love.

Britain's Neal Skupski and his partner Michael Venus of New Zealand are safely through to the third round in the men's doubles.

Emma Navarro takes on Coco Gauff today with the hope of reaching her first Grand Slam quarter-final.

It's been a breakthrough year for the American, who won her first WTA Tour title in January and has squeezed into the world's top 20.

Quarter-finalists at Wimbledon are guaranteed a hefty £375,000 in prize money, although I'm sure that's a drop in the ocean for Navarro, whose dad Ben is an American billionaire investment tycoon.

Coco Gauff landed her first Grand Slam title at the end of 2023, winning the US Open, but it has been a case of nearly moments in 2024.

Gauff exited the Australian Open and the French Open at the semi-final stage, losing on each occasion to the eventual winning - Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek respectively.

Wimbledon hasn't historically been a happy hunting ground for the 20-year-old failing to go beyond the fourth round in four previous attempts.

The American is yet to drop a set at SW19 this summer and looks like she will take some stopping.
