Summary

  1. Alcaraz breaks the Djokovic serve in opening gamepublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 14 July

    *Alcaraz 6-2 1-0 Djokovic

Just as in the first set, Carlos Alcaraz cranks up the pressure from point one.

And it works as he gets another break.

For the first time in this tournament, Novak Djokovic is looking like a 37-year-old who only had knee surgery last month and came into this tournament on eight days preparation.

It would've been one of the greatest achievements in sport, and still would be, if Djokovic wins these championships. Not looking likely at the moment.

    Right. Time for set two.

Just as in set one, Novak Djokovic to serve first. He had his serve broken in the opening game of the match. Alcaraz aims to do the same again.

    "COME ON ENGLAND!"

That's what one fan jokingly shouts before Carlos Alcaraz steps up to serve out the set.

It gets a good few giggles, but there's no putting the defending champion off at the moment.

    First set done and dusted.

  6. 'Weird to see expressionless Djokovic'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 14 July

It's really weird to see Novak not showing any expressions, whether it's anger or... it's just weird because there are shots he wouldn't usually be missing in the final of a Grand Slam.

  7. 'An uncomfortable start'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 14 July

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

Djokovic is more experienced than perhaps any other player and he'll be looking to put this behind him. It was an uncomfortable start.

After a mammoth 14-minute game, you wouldn't have expected the whole set to be done at the 41-minute mark.

Carlos Alcaraz has been absolutely flawless, earning a double break and holding his serve with Djokovic, rather stunned, only netting on the Spaniard's second set point.

  9. Djokovic saves first set pointpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 14 July

    *Alcaraz 5-2 Djokovic

A great response from Djokovic, finding the line with Alcaraz only able to send the ball into the bottom of the net.

    Second set point.

Djokovic doesn't look right to me. In the first few games, after the serve he was hopping on his left foot twice instead of following through onto the right. When returning he is noticeably pulling out of the landing on the right leg if he can't get to the Alcaraz first serve. I hope he doesn't aggravate things and miss out on one final Olympics later this year.

Alcaraz just believes in himself and he loves the sport more than anyone else. He always has a huge smile on his face whenever I see him. I think Novak knows that if you are to win some slams then you have to go through Alcaraz now.

No issues for Novak Djokovic in that service game to double the amount of games he has won.

Now comes Alcaraz's first chance to serve out the set. Even if he can't take it, he'd potentially have another go later on.

There have been no proper big leaps for joy on Henman Hill yet, even after Carlos Alcaraz secured his double break.

I guess with everyone packed so tightly together, you're probably not guaranteed room to sit back down once you jump up.

Better save the standing ovations for the really big moments deep into this match.

The first set won't determine how the match ends but I do think Djokovic needs to start putting more power on his groundstrokes to take advantage of points when Alcaraz is missing.

Carlos Alcaraz’s movement and athleticism is so good that he’s making one of the greatest movers of all-time in Novak Djokovic look like an old man. A frighteningly high-level of tennis being played from the first point from the Spaniard.

    Nick Kyrgios

We thought Alcaraz would have to improve his first serve after serving at under 50% in the semi-final. It's now at around 75% and that is crucial if you want to have success against Novak.

  19. Alcaraz saves break point to holdpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 14 July

    Alcaraz 5-1 Djokovic*

Novak Djokovic was unable to take the one chance he had crafted and we soon return to what we have seen for most of the previos half an hour.

Alcaraz holds and needs just one more game to wrap up the set.

  20. Alcaraz saves break back point for deucepublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 14 July

    *Alcaraz 4-1 Djokovic

A leaping drop shot from deep from Carlos Alcaraz comes up just short and for the first time today, Novak Djokovic is looking at a break point.

Not for long though. A great first serve from Alcaraz followed by a charge to the net, forces Djokovic to try something special. He tries a lob out wide, but off target it goes. Deuce.
