It's the classic case of one guy, Sinner, who is there consistently all the time and his level barely drops, and one guy who has got that extra turbo button.

But... sometimes Alcaraz is up and down, and he's going up and down here.

Sinner is right to move forward and open the court up and he has used the slice backhand to great success in the tournament. To hold serve it's important to shift the momentum back in his favour.

This is where you slightly question Alcaraz's concentration levels.

It's fair to say Sinner is not the most expressive chap on tour.

So it's quite surprising to see him show his frustration at dragging that passing shot into the tramlines for 30-40.

Then it is more startling to hear him yelp 'Let's go!' after saving the break point.

    Big stakes, big emotion.

I think part of the Alcaraz game plan was to try to slice some balls low in the middle of the court to Sinner, that's what Dimitrov did so well against him and really had him off balance, but he hasn't had too many chances because Sinner has been hitting the ball so hard.

Wonder if Sinner is wearing new shoes again? Someone in the team might have nip off and get a pair of box-fresh trainers if not.

Another slip at the baseline from Italian but it doesn't prevent him from nabbing the break.

Sinner said after beating Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals he was wearing brand-new kicks to provide more grip.

Not knowing what to say when you're writing about tennis is problematic.

Everyone in the media seats is stunned and open-mouthed. So are the people around us.

We've seen the almost impossible from both of these guys in the past, but that was something else.

The ferocity of Sinner's forehand down the line was incredible. Then he was topped by Alcaraz first getting there and then flicking the stretching backhand into a winner.

    Sinner 4-6 0-0 Alcaraz*

An inauspicious start to the second set for Carlos Alcaraz as he double faults and then sends a forehand into the net.

A little bit of pressure on Alcaraz's serve.

  15. 'A moment of magic'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 13 July

Sinner has lost his rhythm on serve a little bit and his first serve percentage is dropping.

That was a moment of magic. Such a great rally at set point, the control of the racquet face from Alcaraz to direct a winner from that position. There is no-one else who has that athletic ability.

How is that even possible?! The forehand down the line from Sinner would have been a winner against any other player except Alcaraz, who has got the whole of Centre Court on its feet!

It's impossible to get that ball over the net!

  18. Game and first set - Alcarazpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 13 July

    WOW.

What a match we have on our hands here! How on earth did Alcaraz get that absolutely ripping forehand down the line back in play.

An incredible return from the Spaniard to wrap up the opening set.

He points his finger to his ear and takes the adulation of the crowd who had risen to their feet.

A magic moment at the crucial time.
