Joe Cordina reaches European Championships semi-finals

Welsh boxer Joe Cordina has secured at least a bronze medal at the European Championships after a stunning win over number one seed Domenico Valentino.

Cordina won with a first-round technical knockout against the former world champion from Italy in the 60kg class in Bulgaria.

The 23-year-old is now guaranteed a place at the World Championships in Qatar in October.

His semi-final will take place on Friday.

In the previous round, the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist was under constant pressure from Dawid Michelus but out-boxed and out-manoeuvred his Polish opponent to make the last.
