Liverpool winning the title perhaps means more to Trent Alexander-Arnold than most of his team-mates, given he's Liverpool born-and-bred.

His reaction after coming off last night spoke volumes, looking to the sky as he sat down on the substitute's bench, then pulling his shirt over his face.

What do you think? Are the Reds' hopes of saying farewell to Jurgen Klopp by securing a second Premier League title now over?

  3. Reid 'not sure' how much impact Klopp announcement hadpublished at 12:09 25 April

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking on the latest episode of BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, former Nottingham Forest and Republic of Ireland winger Andy Reid is unconvinced Jurgen Klopp's impending exit is to blame for Liverpool losing ground in the title race.

He said: "It would be easy to point the finger at Klopp's departure, but I am not sure it has had much of an impact.

"I am just still surprised by the timing of it because they are building a core team with a great base of players. It will be interesting to see who takes it on and what they will do.

"Historically when big players have left it is really difficult for clubs to pull themselves back."

Liverpool have only won one game against teams in the top 6 (Aston Villa). You need to win the big matches as well as against teams in the lower half of the table if you expect to be in with a shout of winning the league. Two draws against City and Man Utd, draw and a loss against Arsenal and a dubious loss against Spurs.

    Sky Sports

Here's more from ex-Everton striker Wayne Rooney, speaking on Sky Sports about Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp announcing in January that he would be leaving at the end of the season: "Players will look at that and see that as their way of getting out as well. They'll be speaking to other clubs, we know that happens.

"It might have got leaked, he might have had those discussions with Liverpool and someone got hold of it (the story), so he had to announce it. I'm not saying it's his fault.

"It's just the timing that it came out. I think that will have definitely had an affect on some of those players."

There can be recent slip-ups for Liverpool, but I'd point towards failing to beat Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. They can talk about two penalties they could have had in the home games with Arsenal and City, but they weren't given. The non-goal against Spurs is now looking less of a factor.

  8. Toffees showed hard work and played for the shirt - Rooneypublished at 11:43 25 April

    Everton 2-0 Liverpool

    Sky Sports

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Everton striker Wayne Rooney said: "Everton went through a difficult period, for a couple of months really, where they didn't get results. They had the points deduction and the fans were getting frustrated.

"But the fans here, all they want to see is hard work, dedication and [players] playing for the shirt. You do that, they'll accept it, [even if] sometimes you lose the game. They showed that tonight, and they've got some really good players. This will give them a lot of belief moving forward and I think Sean Dyche has done a fantastic job because I know first hand it's not easy when you get a points deduction.

"He's managed those players and the club, and got them through the other side. Hopefully over the next two or three years we'll start to see some stability."

Well played Everton. Wembley was our send off for Klopp. Top four and a trophy was my realistic expectation for this transition season. We’ve exceeded that. We probably aren’t going to get the fairytale ending (though I’ll always keep the faith) but Klopp has given us so many incredible memories. He’s left the club in the best possible position: A lot of promising youth and new players to build on, a lot of trophies in the cabinet and so many unforgettable nights. I feel nothing but gratitude. I hoped we'd win the title for him more than anything else. What a guy.

  14. How many chances have Liverpool forwards missed?published at 11:14 25 April

    Everton 2-0 Liverpool

This table doesn't make grim reading for Liverpool fans. After Wednesday's derby defeat, manager Jurgen Klopp bemoaned the number of chances his forwards have missed in recent games.

While the Premier League's joint-top scorer Erling Haaland has missed more big chances than Darwin Nunez, he's scored almost twice more than Liverpool's Uruguayan striker has.

Luis Diaz has missed more than he's scored and although Mohamed Salah's conversion rate is better, he's missed one more than his Colombian team-mate.

So how much are missed chances to blame for the Reds' faltering title challenge?

  15. 'I think Liverpool have actually overperformed this season'published at 11:08 25 April

    Everton 2-0 Liverpool

    Sky Sports

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher speaking to Sky Sports about what the team should do in Jurgen Klopp's last few games as Reds boss: "You just run for this man, in these last four games. No-one will say the title's gone, but we all know the teams they're competing against.

"This guy, and what he's done for so many careers in that squad, you run like your life depends on it. That's what you've got to do, give this man a send-off.

"Whatever happens, his legacy's there. He's an absolute legend, he's loved by every Liverpool supporter. The players there might think the title's gone - they won't say that to each other - but just run your heart out, not just for the club but for the manager, between now and the end of the season."

Liverpool look like a team that have hit the end of the road. Too many big players haven’t stepped up this season but they aren’t questioned because of who they are. We can’t have 5 players in our starting 11 that started the Champions League final in Kiev 6 years ago. We need to keep it fresh like City or United under Ferguson who aren’t scared of getting rid of big names for the benefit of the team. Curtis Jones shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting 11 for a team challenging for the title and Salah and Van Dijk couldn’t look any less interested.

Don't worry, this isn't a manager announcement. There are no fresh updates on Arne Slot and his potential move to Liverpool and the Premier League.

After the Merseyside derby on Wednesday, Reds captain Virgil van Dijk was asked about the Feyenoord boss and whether he would be a good fit for the club.

"I find it hard to answer of course, but I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment, Van Dijk told ViaPlay., external

"And I think the way of playing and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach. Only I think what of course I read and hear is that it's still far from being completed.

Injury-hit Wolves are now six games without victory in the league, losing four during that sequence.

O'Neil said Wolves' display in their 1-0 loss to his former club Bournemouth was "the worst performance of the season so far".

The title dream for Liverpool has been nothing more than mathematical for some time now. With the likes of United and Everton taking 7 points off them across 4 matches (and United knocking them out of the FA Cup) could winning the title be considered realistic?
