Gloucestershire in pictures: Wildlife and history

This gorgeous sunrise is a great place to start our round-up
- Published
Our weekly round-up of pictures from the county includes beautiful sunrises and fascinating history being restored.
There are also pictures showcasing some of the birdlife and countryside from across Gloucestershire.

Splashing about: A pair of female king penguins enjoyed their first dip at Birdland Park & Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water this week.
The new arrivals were introduced to the other members of the resident penguin colony and are settling in well, according to keepers.

Historic repairs: A roundhouse built in memory of an Iron Age teenager is to be transformed into an educational resource. The hut was built by children and teachers in 2000 after skeletal remains were found by archaeologists at Bourton-on-the-Water Primary Academy.

Country walk: This scene in Upton St Leonards was captured on Wednesday morning as the sun made an appearance.

History restored: A four-mile (7km) dry stone wall is being built to help a major new commuter road blend into its Cotswolds surroundings. Expert stonemasons - 12 in all - have already spent a year making the wall out of honey-coloured Cotswold stone, at a pace of one metre per day, next to the A417 Missing Link between Gloucester and Cirencester.

Colourful: Paulina Zgondek took this gorgeous picture of a male kingfisher at Saintbridge Pond Nature Reserve.

Swanning around: These swans were spotted basking on the river bank on a sunny morning in Stroud this week.
